Merit Scholarships (not NMS)

Did anyone get offered any true Merit Scholarship to UofC and was it anything of significance?
We just got offered a small one but it seems it might be a "little too little, a little too late". If they had offered it about a month or so earlier DS might have seriously considered the school.

I thought I had seen that some had received notification of a merit award early on (DS was accepted EA) but we never heard of anything (merit wise or F/A) until just recently. We did put in FA stuff in January though.

Any input would be helpful

We heard that today is the last day for merit awards to issued. When did you get yours? Was it just posted on your DS’s portal? We also heard that they give in increments of 5, 10 & 15K awards. We’re hoping to get something today.

Son got a letter with an adjusted EFC on it, I believe it came about 10 days ago. It did eliminate any work component on the financial schedule. It was a very pleasant surprise.

Perhaps another student turned down their admission and scholarship and they’d love to have your kid in his/her place? I’m not sure why you’re hearing so late, but it’s still worth considering–even a few grand can help cover books and travel expenses.

I received $10,000 a year, which was definitely the deciding factor in my decision to attend UChicago.

And I received that letter about a week ago. It seems that the merit scholarships can be awarded at almost any time.

I got a 10k scholarship EA but I won’t be enrolling. I was wondering if they “recycled” scholarships for those who do not attend…

I asked about the “recycling” of scholarships as well. They do not. They just give out more than they know they can “afford”. Although any college complaining about not being able to afford something makes me laugh =P.
