My D got a fixed scholarship every year, but she also received additional smaller scholarships from school after freshmen year. The amount of the small scholarship increased almost every year but not at the exact amount of tuition increase, so they are not directly linked. We are actually paying less and less and we even received refund in the last 3 semesters.
Ohio University and Miami University Ohio are two schools that freeze tuition.
UIUC also fixed the tuition rate for 4 years, but they have very poor financial aids anyway.
Our S got a Presidential 50% tuition scholarship, renewable for all 4 years. It did keep pace with tuition. In addition, he qualified for and got additional small merit awards while he was a student at his U, which helped defray the growing costs of his tuition, plus his paid summer internships were also helpful at reducing out-of-pocket costs. Agree that the documentation the student receives when the merit award is made will set out the terms of the offer, whether it’s a set amount or a % of tuition, as well as the terms for renewing and keeping the award.
Hi All, Thanks for the feedback! We’re set on the school list, focusing on good fits and affordability, and in our state we have some options that freeze tuition. Everything is clearly stated in the merit offer, but it is interesting to learn that some have letters stated as a %, instead of a fixed $. Waiting on all the school’s aid offers…acceptances are exciting, but not nearly as exciting as learning a school is affordable for the full 4 years.
