Merit Scholarships

Are we supposed to get them together with the acceptance package or do they get mailed later on? I've read that it's been the latter case in previous years but I've also read of admitted students who got in early January/late February this year getting the scholarships together with their acceptance package. I was wondering which case it is for those who got accepted this month? I'm referring to the International Freshman Academic Scholarship and the Dean's Scholarship. Thanks!

^ bump bump bump

I heard they were mailed separately and we should get them this week?

Actually, us February acceptances haven’t gotten any letter yet about whether we actually got the scholarship or not yet. I think scholarship stuff comes the same time they mail out the financial aid offers, so we’ll all probably be getting something next week.

but no one has been notified about the Dean’s scholarship yet either, correct?

I read that some people who got the acceptance early received the Dean’s together with the admission package.

Yes true. We got the deans with the acceptance letter.

At least that’s what the financial aid pages on the USC site clearly state. That recipients will be notified in “early April”.

fingers crossed.

Hey guys, I got my scholarship information today. I am in So Cal.

Congrats Athene! Which scholarship?

Oh congrats! By snail mail?Did you only receive your admission package today or did they come separately for you?

Congrats, Athene!!! I hope it was a big one for you. (She was accepted back in January)

We’re also in SoCal, S2 accepted last week, but no FA in the mail today.

Our S was accepted late in March 2006 and didn’t get all his merit awards until some time in April. They were further confirmed when we attended orientation & S was able to register for classes.

No FA in So Cal in mail today here, either. Is it only the Dean’s scholarship award that people are expecting - or also the various others - Alumni, legacy etc?

Does anyone know if any merit scholarships for Thornton are out? I received my USC acceptance letter on 3/23…but there wasn’t any information about merit scholarships.

I’ve been wondering this too. Does anyone know if Thornton even does give significant merit scholarships? Has anyone ever gotten a full merit scholarship from them?

IUPA, out of curiosity, what major did you select? I don’t know if there’s a difference between the various areas of study in Thornton (performance, composition, etc)…

^ BM - Piano Performance is what I put on the application. I really want to do that and study languages, but was told to try to get into Thornton first and then worry about a double. I guess they frown upon it.

I have been told that the merit scholarships can be slim ( I hope its not true)

I was told to apply for the main scholarships because of that, but I didn’t make the cut. :(

shxt! I didn’t even know about alumni schol’s…now im’ finally seeing on the usc site that they had to be in by Dec 1. Who knew? They made it sound like just doing the regular app, and FAFSA etc. would get you submitted for all merit schols. !!!

Doing the regular 12/1 app qualifies you for all USC scholarships, but the Alumni Scholarships are awarded through the various Alumni clubs - USC does not make the decisions on those. Same with the NTSAF - it is awarded by a student group, not by USC.

We missed those when my daughter applied, too (and you thought I was SO well-informed!). The good news is that continuing students can apply for the alumni scholarships in most cases, so you can apply this December! My daughter received one her 2nd year at USC (and her alumni connection is only through a cousin).
