Merit Scholarships

Hi all,

I was accepted EA to UChicago for class of 2016 (woot!) and I was wondering when merit scholarship notifications would be sent out. There was no indication of any merit scholarship on my online decision letter or on my paper admissions letter (from the mail). Does that mean I didn't get a merit scholarship?

Thanks. UChicago is awesome!

Some people have already gotten merit scholarships but they will send out more over the next couple months. Apparently they give out more every month or so.

I think they come out in April.
I didn’t get one :(

Forgive me for intruding on this forum, but I was accepted EA last year and received notification of a scholarship a month or so later–sometime in January or February. Don’t lose hope yet! (Of course, I have absolutely no idea how they decide who gets the scholarships.)

A chicago representative called just a few minutes ago to congratulate me and stuff, and when she asked me if i had any questions asked her about financial aid and she told me that only about 5-10% of the students get merit based scholarship. definately brought me down cause im gonna have to apply to a ton of scholarships then

I just got a call also. I felt a little awkward since my parents were standing over my shoulder listening so I just asked some generic questions to pass the time before hanging up…

these calls were just from students who are definitely not informed about the amount of merit scholarships that are given out.

Speaking as someone who actually made some of those calls, nobody could possibly have given you a reliable statistic regarding the amount of students who got merit scholarships. Ask the admissions counselor here (screen name UChicago) or email psac@uchicago.edu for a better answer.

Just a subjective comment, but, merit scholarships are a bit of a crapshoot/impossible to predict or even have a decent guess whether or not you’ll get one. I got one for UChicago, but I also got wait-listed at Carnegie Mellon and denied at Brown…
