I just visited Mich today and I really liked it. The only thing that concerns me, as an OOS student, is the price. How generous is Mich with merit aid, and what type of students would expect to get any? I hesitate to post my stats and stuff because I don't want this to became a Chance Me thread or something like that. Thanks.

hey…i am from jersey and applied early action to school of engineering…i was accepted and received 36k in grants/scholarships and my family makes an above average income

Congrats, that’s awesome! If you don’t mind me asking, what are your stats?

Most students who receive good scholarships are admitted early. Students who apply and are admitted later generally do not receive good packages.

As for stats, most students who receive sizeable scholarships ($10k/year or more) are generally quite strong by Michigan standards; 3.9-4.0 GPA, over 1500/2200 on the SAT, 34 or better on the ACT, strong ECs etc… There are exceptions of course.

Thanks Alexandre, I suppose I would be in the running for a scholarship, but I certainly wouldn’t have one guaranteed.

I received $30,000 in scholarships and about $16,000 in grant aid, making the cost about $4,000-5,000 for me. I also applied early and am OOS. Some of my stats are:
ACT: 36 (36 M, 36 E, 34 R, 36 S, 8 Essay)
SAT: 2200 (790 M, 740 CR, 670 W, 7 Essay)
SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 Physics
AP: 5: Computer Science A, Chemistry, Physics B, Stats, U.S. History; 4: English Language; Currently taking: Calc AB, Macroecon, Bio, Psych, U.S. Gov’t
Rank: 9/485
GPA: 3.98 UW, 4.29 W

Impressive stuff RawkForGod! I can’t say that I have a 36 ACT or a nearly flawless GPA though, so I probably won’t be getting a $30k scholarship.
