Merit Scholarships

Anyone hear from NU on merit scholarship awards?

no, but i've been wondering myself when it's going to come out. hopefully soon! i think i read on the website financial aid comes out late march.

called monday both financial and merit letters are going to be sent "early this week"

i just my package today!!! i got a full scholarship!!! i am so excited right now. :)

ahhh sorry about all those exclamation points.

So people recieved their acceptance letters in the mail today?? Did they send them all at once or are they going to be annoying and gradually send out more?

...or did these people apply EA and are just receiving the financial aid and scholarship info now?

i was EA, and i just got my financial stuff today.

Hey stefanimaniac, congrats on your full scholarship! What were your stats, if ya don't mind?

Thanks, Julie

SATIs Math - 780 Verbal - 750 Writing - 660

GPA - 3.6 uw, 4.3 w

Extracurriculars - model un president, varsity tennis captain, nhs, newspaper online editor, rec softball, sga exec board

AP/IB classes throughout high school career
10th grade - AP US History
11th grade - AP Econ, IB English I, IB Spanish, IB History II, AP BC Calculus, IB TOK, IB Physics I
12th grade - AP Psychology, AP Stat, MV Calculus, IB English II, IB History II, IB TOK, IB Physics II

Stefanimanic,

Those are impressive stats.Congrats on your scholarship!!! Did you go to the scholarship interview day? If so, you must have knocked their socks off! Great job!

Does anyone know how generous Northeastern is with merit aid?

wow stefanimaniac congratulations! you really deserve it! i'm an ib diploma candidate. your sat scores are great! i'm also hoping i get a scholarship.

Does anyone know if they sent everything out at once? Meaning ALL the decisions and aid packages? Also, how long does mail take to get to France?? I'm studying abroad my senior year, and [stupidly] put my French address for temporary, and my NY address for permanent.

Ughhh. I'm such an impatient person.

My D got her merit aid today and again I was disappointed. $30,000 over the four years. That is only 7500 per semester. I thought NEU was supposed to give better merit aid. BTW, no mention of financial aid is this letter. Do they send that separate?

mbe: How does your daughter's profile compare to stefanimaniac's?

Her GPA is 3.8, SAT 760 M, 690 V, 680 W. All honors classes, VP of a national organization, Pres. of local chapter, Choir, Piano for 8 years, travel to Europe. She attends a magnet high school with a very rigerous program.

MBE,

If Northeastern is your daughter's first choice, you should appeal the award. The financial aid people would probably give her more a lot money if they were convinced that she would attend.

Northeastern won't give you much if they think, rightly or wrongly, that you'll probably decamp to Harvard or some other higher ranked school.

My point exactly. If you have high stats and really want to go to Northeastern, the financial aid office will open the vault for you. Conversely, if they think that you are using the school as a safety, then they will not go all out to entice you. I would bet that the people who received the full EA scholarships probably convinced the interviewers that they were really serious about attending. Maybe we could ask strawberrycupcake about this since she was one of the interviewers.

I hate to be annoying, but I've fallen seriously in love with Northeastern and cannot attend without serious merit aid. With my stats, do you think I could get enough merit aid to make the cost of attendance 20,000 a year or less?
SAT: 2280, ACT: 33, uw GPA: 3.92, top 3% of class
Applied to college of Health Science

wow, acc_bound, your stats are amazing. i certainly think that you should get enough merit aid to make the cost of attendance 20,00 a year or less. i wouldn't be surprised if you got even more than that. if you don't, you should contact the school because i think your sat scores put you in the top range of people applying.
