I can tell you that Northeastern recently completed a very successful fundraising drive which raised over $200 million dollars. Some of this money (approx $50 million dollars) went to fund new scholarships or expand existing ones. So the admissions office has more money to give away this year. I can't stress this enough: if you have high stats and really want to go to Northeastern, let them know. You may very well get more money.

kk, strange, I don't see your post now, but I read it on my email. Anyway, I checked the merit aid on usnews. 19% of freshmen got merit aid and the average was 13,349. 15% of underclassmen were getting merit aid and the average amount was 12,932.

Need based aid-67% of freshmen got need based and the average grant was 13,965.
60% of underclassmen got need based aid and the average grant was 11,737

I deleted it because I double checked and you were right. I had been thinking of the $13,965 and didn't notice the other numbers.

Thanks, kk. I just was hoping that I was posting in the right place, so that you would see the numbers. I'm glad that you found them.

Yep, I e-mailed the admissions office and 7,500/year is all I would get. So, Northeastern is out, I can't afford it. Oh well.

ED: I got $8,000 a year and the total amount of money they are giving me in scholarship and grants for the first year is $22,000 something. It's still really expensive though and I got those grants for a reason lol.

SAT 1's Didn't send but I did well, but the writing is what I did the best on (710) and they don't even count writing for my year!
ACT: 29 (35 on the reading section, but I did badly on the science so...)
GPA:3.3 but I have steadily improved from being an average Honors student but this year I got a lot better...last quarter getting a 97 in AP Stats, 99 in AP US History, and 100 in AP Lit. So hopefully that helped out...
Also took a college course at Marist and got an A

Essays: I worked so hard on them and I love english so I did well. (I actually read books about how to write the essay lol)

ECs: Captain of indoor track, varsity indoor and outdoor track, president of spanish club, council member of italian club, member of nhs, art club, film club, and in charge of public affairs for Diversity Committee

Volunteer: I volunteered 9 hours a day at a camp for underpriveledged inner city children totaling to over 200 hours. I also did over 100 hours at a local soup kitchen. From there I did lots of other things but not nearly as long. O and I had my own fundraiser for my senior project (food for hungry and books for underpriveledged children)

It's odd, I didn't even apply for financial aid or a scholarship and they offered me $5,000. I'm not going though, but it was pretty cool.

You don't apply for them lol. Well...for financial aid...but not scholarships. Congrats tho, where are you going? I just found out that Cornell is giving me a gauranteed spot to transfer to their school sophomore year since they liked me a lot but didn't have enough spots in the freshman class! You don't even know how excited I am!!!!

I am an international and already got accepted. I have not received my package yet. Those of you in the US who already received the acceptance letter, do the scholarship letters come together with it? How do you know whether you got scholarship or not?

My scholarship letter came separately. I think it came a couple days after the acceptance letter.

I got $12000 a year, $7000 in grants from Northeastern and the rest from financial aid. 7000 is a little low, but I wasn't expecting much more with my less-than-stellar grades and just decent test scores. Luckly my parents will be paying most of it, although I'd like to help out a little if I make enough in co-op. We'll see. I'm pretty happy with the aid though, it's more than I would have gotten at the other schools I applied to, which were all major state universities.

Did any international get notified of any merit scholarships? If so, when?

If not, then do any of you know when they are going to notify internationals of merit scholarships?

I'm intl and waiting too!

a friend of mine
got accepted to NEU, but he hasnt received his fin package yet. Do u know when they will send the packages.

I also didn't get my financial package from NEU. I am mad. May 1st is approaching. And still I have not figured it out yet. I am going to give them a call inquiring this.

Also do u guys know NEU'S cost of attendance is now $40,000 a year. Crazy number.

That is crazy. It seems as if every college's tuition is increasing though...

What is so strange about Northeastern's financial aid system is that my friends who were accepted to the honors program received less money than those who didn't make the program, myself included. For example, two of my friends that made the Honors program were offered $7,500 per year while I was offered $11,000 per year. Another one of my friends who was accepted but not into Honors received a merit-based award of $16,000. Maybe they don't expect some of the Honors acceptees to attend because Northeastern is more of a safety for them. But that doesn't explain when one of my friends who made Honors asked to appeal her scholarship and they refused. It's strange.

Merit-based scholarships and the honors program are decided based on a different combination of factors.

My scholarships are larger than my friend's who's in the honor program (Although they were decided at different times and by the time they decided the aid they had much more good stats from me)

But if you're qualified enough to be accepted into the Honors Program, isn't one probably more qualified than one who isn't accepted and thus should receive a higher merit award? I think it could also be because if you're in Honors, you're paying for those new and probably expensive dorms, but that's just my own speculation.
