DS got his OOS acceptance but lots hinges on scholarship $$. There was no separate app for scholarships. Does anyone know how/when merit $$ is offered?
The timing is a little fuzzy for me, but if I remember correctly, my S received his merit scholarship offer in late February / early March. It came in his portal, and he also received an email from the program that offered part of his scholarship.
We just got notification in an email that some scholarships are showing up on the portal.
My son received an email with his Cincinnatus scholarship info this morning. Does anyone know what the dollar amount range for the Cincinnatus scholarship is?
I don’t know the range, but my S got $2k and has a 34 ACT and 3.8 UW GPA. So, we were pretty disappointed. I’ve heard that UC spreads these scholarships among lots of students, but it’s not helpful for us. Disappointed.
My son wasn’t expecting as much from UC based on things he had heard. It seems they don’t offer as much upfront but you can earn more scholarships based on your performance as a UC student, particularly if you are in an honors program. Also, if your child does co-ops, they can earn quite a bit of money that way. Tough decisions ahead…
That’s good to know. Have decisions about the honors program already been made?
He interviewed last weekend for the college of business honors program. He was told they may not make decisions until mid-March, but hopefully sooner.
@mamabearky Last year’s notifications about Lindner Honors went out by email on March 8.
We were disappointed with the 2000.00 also. Does anyone know when the individual colleges scholarship offers go out? Also is Lindner honors different then honors for other colleges? when are non lindner honor decisions made?
All good questions, @csmom2 - I have those exact same ones!
@csmom2 and @HMMof2 Lindner Honors programs are through the Business School. There are three levels of Lindner Honors - Lindner Honors Plus, Kolodzik Scholars, and Circle of Excellence. Decisions (and associated scholarship information) about Lindner Honors came out last year on March 8 if that helps anyone gauge when this year’s decisions will come out.
University Honors invitations have already been made. The invitation letter states that 5% of accepted students were invited to participate in this program and that the criteria was more than just stats. My son also got $2K merit award. Both of those were unexpected surprises. We had heard UC was stingy with merit and are counting on the co-op program to offset costs.
My son interviewed for Lindner Honors also. Sounds like the interview dates were a little earlier than last year, so maybe decisions will go out late Feb instead of early March. We can hope at least, the waiting is hard!
Congrats My3Kiddos on the University Honors invitation! Has your son made his decision?
@sunandc - Thanks! UC is one of his top 2 choices and he’s weighing the pros and cons of the co-op program vs just a straight through 4 years elsewhere. It’s a tough call on which one is a better fit for him.
@My3Kiddos what is his intended major?
Yes congrats @My3Kiddos and thanks for the information. We are also hoping the coop helps defer cost and hoping for something from the college. I am surprised at the competitiveness of UC but their Copp program is hard to beat
@sunandc - He’s going to major in Mechanical Engineering. He’s been extended an invitation to ACCEND and is debating whether to do that and whether to chose a masters in science or business. It definitely piqued his interest, but I worry that with that, co-oping, and the University Honors program it might be too much.
@csmom2 - Thank you. I always though CCM and DAAP were competitive, but not the rest of UC. But their website shows they give limited high dollar merit awards, so I guess those are super competitive.
Does anyone know when the engineering college announces scholarships? I am hoping there is still a chance but I am really unclear. I know dorms open up on March 4 and I would love to have all the scholarship answers by then but maybe I am dreaming. Thanks
