I thought I saw something where those scholarships will be announced by the end of the month. Not 100% sure, though.
@csmom2 Please read this thread from 2016ā¦it talks about engineering. I couldnāt find snything more recent (I have an engineering student as well).
thank you @tweetie1. Sounds like we should hear by midmarch. I would have loved to have all this in front of us before confirming and picking dorms but he 100% wants to go there so I will just have to hope he gets some additional money and figure out the rest.
@mamabearky and @sunandc My son said they are starting to let seniors know about business honors tonight. Good luck to your students!
Thank you @gclsports. He found out today that he was accepted into the business honors program!
My S got accepted into KBSā¦Received email todayā¦As of now he still debating between KBS, Miami Honor Program and IU Kelly Honor Scholarā¦Thoughts?
BtW we live in Cincinnati, 3 miles away from UC
@college019 Congratulations to your son! We also live in Cincinnati, just a few miles from campus. That was my sonās only hesitation about accepting LHP. But He lives on campus and we make sure to leave him alone as much as possible so he gets the āaway at collegeā feel. We like UC for the co-op program, the travel they do as part of LHP and KBS, the cohort model of LHP and KBS, the access they have to the honors program administration. My son sees the director of the honors programs every day for class and their cohort plays basketball (or does some other physical activity) with him every week. They also get special advisors through business honors - my son has 4 advisors - and have strong connections with the upperclassmen in the LHP and KBS programs. Miami and IU are obviously both good schools and my son considered them both, but I think what makes UC different than those two is proximity to businesses. Itās easy for UC to have local business leaders come to campus for classes, for student presentations, and for networking events, or to have students go to corporations for hands on learning experiences (my son had all those experiences in his first semester and continues to have them this semester), simply because UC is so close to those businesses. Iām happy to try and answer any specific questions you might have. Feel free to PM me.
Thank you ? @gclsports I canāt send a PM yet, I need to post 10 more posts for the PM feature to be activated.
Whatās the mean difference between LhP and KBS?
@gclsports-glad to hear your son is having such a great experience! The parent presentation during the interview process was fantastic, spelling out pretty much what you mentioned above. We were hoping that everything that UC is promising as an honors student is actually true and not just glorified marketing, and it sounds like it is, from your sonās experience! Our son has been torn between a few schools, but we are hoping he chooses UC for the reasons you mentioned above!
Looks like additional scholarship information has been updated on the portals. Now just waiting to get the official financial aid letter.
@mamabearky Congratulations to your son!
To answer @college019 's question, I would say the structure is the biggest difference. LHP is a 5 year program because they do more co-op rotations. The first year of LHP is academic semesters. Beginning with the summer after the first year, the students co-op. Thereafter, they alternate academic semesters and co-op semesters, and the way the rotations work out there is one summer where they take classes. The whole cohort takes an international trip in their third year - we are still hearing more about it, but my understanding is it is a lengthy trip where they visit companies in multiple countries in either Europe, Asia or South America. At some point, LHP takes a domestic trip, too. There has been talk about it being to NY or Chicago, but Iām not sure of the timing of it or if a decision has been made yet as to where they will go. LHP students are required to live together in the same dorms freshman year (this year, it is Morgens, which is an apartment style building considered one of the better dorms on campus and about 50 yards from the business school). After that, they can do what they want as far as living arrangements.
My understanding of KBS is based on things my son has said or what I have heard from parents whose kids are in KBS, so you may want to verify. But, as I understand it, KBS is a more traditional four year program. Only one co-op or other Lindner Professional Experience is required (although the student could certainly do more) and is usually done during the summer. KBS students have access to honors housing if they want it and many live in the same dorm with LHP (I think COE does too, but not sure about that.). KBS travels as a group earlier, but I think they do shorter trips. I know the first-year KBS students have been to Chicago already and I think they go to Montreal soon. Iām not sure what they do as far as travel after the first year.
All three Lindner Honors groups (LHP, KBS, and COE) tend to take classes together so they get to know each other, and they get to know other students both in business and in other colleges through their regular classes and extracurriculars. All three allow time for and encourage participation in other extracurriculars throughout the University.
I hope that helps.
Just logged into the portal, only thing that shows is a $5000 student loan option. Yikes.
i just logged in and it looks like they updated his cincinnatus scholarship and gave him a small CEAS scholarship. At least it is something. I guess cooping and outside scholarships
@csmom2 thatās what my sonās portal showed as well. A little something, but still nothing to bowl us over.
@HMMof2 is your son engineering? i did call and I guess the Choose Ohio First is still outstanding and doesnt get awarded until later (if what they are saying is true). I am not thrilled but according to the person in financial aid, you had to be in the top 1/3 of the engineering admissions class to even get anything and they made it seem like his Cincinnatus amount was one of the tops. Its just low compared to other colleges but he really wants to go to UC and I do agree their program and cooping is impressive.
@csmom2 yes, heās also admitted to the engineering program, but heās keeping his options open. Heād like to attend one of the admitted students days and then will make a decision about where he ultimately goes. Money is a huge factor, and so the co-op program at UC is especially appealing.
My S received $2k from Cincinnatus and $5k from COB/ KBSā¦
@college019 do you know if the $5k from COB was from an essay your child wrote on the advantages of the co-op program at UC? Wondering if that has been awarded yet?
No, it wasnāt. I think the $5k came from KBS, as the LHP is a full tuition (or full ride??).
Just received sonās financial aide packageā¦no merit scholarship listed at all. Have all the scholarship decisions been made or will they continue to update? We sure didnāt expect thisā¦
