Merit Scholarships

@countrylife - Did you receive it in the mail or via email?

He logged into his “Catalyst” I believe. Nothing in the mail.

I am wondering the same thing
is what is currently shown the “final” numbers?

I wish I knew that, too.

Me too! I from what I was told thee choose Ohio first for stem is still not awarded but I don’t know if the other scholarship amounts can still change
My son is set on UC so we are looking at outside scholarships and then looking forward to the coop program

If anyone knows anything different I hope they let us know. This site has been helpful as I was clueless
Still in shock about UC low scholarships

My son’s Catalyst shows Cincinnatus and CEAS, along with subsidized and unsubsidized student loans.

What is CEAS?

CEAS = College of Engineering and Applied Science

@OhioMom6 same case with me, with only a $5000 student loan option. I shot them an email and apparently I did not receive a “competitive merit-based scholarship” despite my 32 act and 3.98 unweighted gpa/ 4.54 cumulative gpa. ridiculous

@58funky wow, I am both amazed and disappointed at the FA packages at Cincinnati. My sons stats were good but not as good as yours.

@58funky and @ohiomom6 which colleges were you or your sons admitted too? it all seems to be individual college based

So very disappointing! We are crunching the numbers, trying to see if we can survive the first year with no aid. It looks like UC is a better option from year 2 on
Many schools require students live on campus ($$$$) 2 yrs, so at least that’s an area we’d save money. You can figure apt. life to cost about half. Then the co-op would offset tuition cost as well

@countrylife - Have you looked at rents in the UC area to make sure it will be actually 1/2 the cost of a dorm? My oldest goes to a state school in another state and we were absolutely shocked that apartments close to campus cost as much, if not more, than living in a dorm because we are required to sign a 12 month lease. While she saves on food, her total room and board costs are no less living off campus.

Yes, I meant to say his share of rent (based on sharing an apartment with 3 other people) would be half the cost of UC housing. Sorry!

My son said he got an update that he’d received a small one-time award from CEAS. He doesn’t check these things often, so I have no idea when it was awarded. I’m grateful for every dollar he gets, but it the awards do feel small compared to other schools.

Incoming parents, keep in mind when crunching numbers that UC freshmen MUST be on the full - and most expensive - meal plan unless they live at home. It is a ridiculous amount. My daughter is living in a more expensive housing option for next year, but by going down a level or two in the meal plan I am actually saving money.

Our financial aid offer was a definite Ouch! Ds was offered much more at other institutions so I was surprised. Older son was offered essentially in-state tuition when he was accepted to OSU with equivalent test scores so I kind of expected that UC would offer a “scholarship” for our OOS younger son that would reduce to in-state. Nope! Hmm ?

My daughter received a small scholarship and no invitation to Honors. I wonder what is the criteria for selecting students. Also, she received a nice scholarship from OSU and Purdue but it is hard to oversee DAAP’s reputation.
