Merit Scholarships

What undergraduate business schools give the best/most merit scholarships? I’m really hoping to find some that offer merit, so once it combines with financial aid, college will be affordable.

Unless the university explicitly says it “stacks” awards, merit aid is typically subtracted from grants. You must email universities directly and ask.
Look into MiamiOhio.

It is not that simple. In my opinion you need 4 lists of schools…given your stats:

  1. Schools that will give you guaranteed merit based on stats...you need to research schools that post on their website ...students with XX score and YY gpa...get this guaranteed amount of merit. Do not expect FA from these schools....based on what you have reported so far.
  2. Schools that meet full need. This requires you to use the NPCs in order to craft your list. You can also throw in 1-2 of those lottery merit award schools if you want, but don’t count on getting these awards.
  3. Schools that might give you enough merit based on stats...but it’s not guaranteed. Schools such as Pitt, Ohio State, etc. Do not expect FA from these state schools. Try the NPC for Tulane, Miami and Northeastern and see what it says. Most schools will not stack merit and FA....ask.
  4. Instate safety schools

Merit aid at highly selective schools is VERY competitive. Not to say you wouldn’t win that race. Maybe you would but you’re running against MANY other highly qualified candidates. Tons of kids who appear “all world” get shut out of those awards every yr. If merit money is essential, look to quality schools that are less selective.

If you need merit, don’t get caged in business school category as you can major in anything and get an MBA afterwards. Even most top BBA graduates end up needing MBA from top programs to get ahead. Look at top 25 schools and focus on ones who still offer merit scholarships. Custom tailor your application to suit their requirements.

@nickthekid How was your PSAT? Will you be a National Merit Semifinalist? If so, the state of Florida offers the Benacquiato Scholarship. Full rides (tuition + room & board) are available to out of state students in many of the schools, including the flagship UF and Florida State. If you prefer the smaller LACs, the choices include two 100% honors colleges, New College of Florida in Sarasota and FAU/Wilkes in Jupiter.

Top 25 schools are very hard to get into…getting merit is even harder. I am not suggesting that this student should not apply, but I am saying that he should also have some realistic options.

OP,
In addition to what other posters have already said, remember that you’ll generally receive your largest merit awards at those schools where you are a significant cut above the typical admitted student. Why? These schools will recognize you as a must-get applicant and might be willing to use large scholarships so snag you.

Sure, there are some “elite” schools that offer full-tuition or full-ride scholarships. Vanderbilt, for instance, does in order to lure those who are considering Ivy acceptances (the Ivies and many other super-selective schools do not offer merit awards). But Vandy is no easy admit. If you are open to LACs, the CTCL schools (Colleges that Change Lives; a book and organization) are popular choices for families who have high-achieving students that are seeking substantial merit. There are also public unis that do the same, but I’m not as familiar about which public schools offer significant merit.

Most top 20 schools doesn’t offer or approve of BBA for undergrad.
