Are there any significant merit scholarships solely based on SAT scores?

PSAT - yes, the whole National Merit program
SAT - perhaps at some colleges, but usually must be combined with GPA/rank. For example, check the scholarship calculator at Southwestern University's website.

The Robert Byrd scholarship may be awarded solely on your stats (SAT/GPA/rank), depending on which state you live in (each state sets its own criteria).

Quite a few schools will offer big merit scholarships if you're a National Merit Finalist. They're usually state schools, but if you're OK with going to Texas A&M or Alabama, it's an incredible deal.
