Good to know jenskate1. Thanks for the info.

OMG! S got the Barbara Jordan Scholarship for $14,500/year for 4 years. This is so terrific, we are so proud of him!

Congratulations to patsmom's son! That's terrific!

Again - Rice students are tops, and CCers are top of tops! This is a very highly accomplished group of students frequenting this admissions board!

Does the number of merit scholarships being handed out now reflect on the number of scholarships left for RD applicants? I know CC is filled with the best, but it seems like everyone who got accepted ID is getting merit aid as well...

i didn't :-(

did anyone get the trustee diversity scholarship?
it seems like rice only handed out a bunch of trustee distinguished and century scholars

MY stats:
Level: 25
Type: Flying
Resistance to water and fire
Weakness against ground
Special attack: Nap time
Evolves into: Snorlax

Is this a joke? How can I repay you...

We get a really skewed perspective here, because CCer's are such an "elite" group, in terms of stats, EC's, GPA, etc. Most people DON'T get merit scholarships to Rice, and most people (75%) don't even get accepted to Rice. So don't feel bad if you didn't get a merit scholarship; being accepted makes you pretty meritorious anyway. (And my DS didnt' get a scholarship either. We'll wait until we see the F.A. package to make a final decision, but it will probably work out okay. Rice is very fair with the financial aid.)

Trustee Distinguish Scholarship $14,500. Not sure if I will be attending. Need to wait for fin aid.

Will the need-based financial aid be IN ADDITION to the merit aid, or will it just be whatever the merit aid didn't end up covering?

what the hell? You don't have unlimited mana...

feb., as discussed earlier in this thread, merit aid will remove loans then work study, and after that it will basically be wasted by the need-based grants you already receive, unless you manage to get so much merit aid that it is more than need-based, in which case the need-based aid will go away all together.

When DD was accepted to Rice, I emailed the FA department and asked this specifically, since her first year FA package showed no loans or workstudy. They said that this would continue for all 4 years as long as she maintained the minimum GPA (2.8). They did say that if we WANTED loans, they could add them in to the package - if we needed to borrow extra money. She has been there 3 years, and all years have been wonderfully the same! :) If you have questions after you get your FA package, then email them for clarification. It helps to get the answers in writing. :)

Is it possible that we could get scholarships after the acceptance? I got in ID but no scholarships were in the packet so it would be very unlikely that I end up at Rice without them

I doubt you can get a scholarship if it's not in the acceptance packet, other than the national merit one.

I received the Trustee Scholarship ($14500/year). Some of my classmates received the Century scholarship in addition to that. Since the Century scholarship is research based, does that mean it's contingent on your major? I applied to the school of the social sciences, and listed business as my major.

Unlikely, there are social science awards. But maybe applying as of those majors may help.

There are more natural science offerings. But it's also harder to get them, considering the large number of Rice applicants who demonstrate interest in scientific research. Large percentages of Rice students head to med school, ph.d. programs.

well, i know two other students who received both trustee and century and they're both going to be bio majors. Just wondering, cause our stats are similar and neither of them has had any prior research experience. besides, i personally don't see many "research" opportunities for a business major, at least not the type depicted by the site. all of the current research shown on that site are medically related.
