Merit Scholarships

Per a recent conversation with the financial aid office they anticipate sending notices to those students who will be offered merit scholarships by the end of next week. Good luck!

Dana's Dad

Lot's of nail biting going on in our house. Thanks for the heads up Dad.

I've been selected as a Marquis Scholar!!! :)

woot for AA...

boy if you were accepted ea at MIT why are you still looking at other schools?

because there are other schools... lol
maybe money is an issue

Yeah, I just wanted to have options! There's nothing wrong with that, right? ;)

Yes there are certainly other schools. However looking at your other postings and your obvious superior background you are aiming at the ivies with Lafayette as your safety. I tend to think that you were aiming for MIT applying there EA. Wherever you go good luck.

what were your stats and congratulations

Marquis Scholar!!! Whoooo!!!

Ah yes, as far as stats and all, here you go:

White Male
Public HS
Maryland
Government, History major
GPA: 4.0 UW/4.6 W
Rank: Probably around top 5-6%
SAT: 1430/2190
SAT 2: 720 Math 2, 700 Literature, 620 Biology E (Biology is obviously not my thing... why'd I take the test? Lapse in judgement, haha.)
8 APs total (Euro History, Calc, Psychology, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Political Science, Comparative Politics, English Composition)

ECs: Varsity Soccer Captain, Varsity Lacrosse, SGA Treasurer, Amnesty International Executive Board, Self-teaching Arabic, NHS, Club Soccer, a good amount of work experience (lots of manual labor), Soccer Ref, etc.
Volunteering: Various standards, like cancer walks, blood drives, planning homecoming, soccer camp counseling, so on and so forth. As far as special volunteering goes, I went to Israel this past summer as a camp counselor for Messianic Jewish Israelis for about a month (which, coincidentally, happened to be during the war with Hezbollah) doing various community service projects and putting on dance performances (which, admittedly, is not a talent of mine).

Teacher Recs: One pretty excellent, others good
Counselor Rec: Ehh... she was new this year, didn't really know me, standard.
Essays: I was really proud of my common app essay, which dealt with an experience I had concerning transcending language barriers

I was so surprised to get the scholarship. Shooting 2/2 with acceptances so far! Good luck to everyone else!
