I have seen on CC that U of Roch offers good merit scholarships, but I do not find anything I can apply for. Does it mean that they select candidates from the whole applicant pool, or that I do not know where to look?
Does anyone knows stats merit scholarship recipients usually have?

Yes, they select the merit scholarship winners from the application pool; there is no separate application. (My d really liked that!) My d received a merit scholarship (not the Renaissance full-tuition deal) and had 3.65 uw GPA, 2250 SAT, and 33 (or 34, I don't recall) ACT.

Thank you so much!!!
I am also happy about this and I should have a chance. True? My stats are similar - 2270 SAT and 93.6 GPA (which is about 3.8 uw)

Did you apply by Dec. 1? I think you have to apply by Dec. 1 to receive consideration for merit aid (even if you are applying RD).

Check the UR website.

No, I applied in late December, I only knew about Jan 1 deadline. Maybe I should check how strict Dec 1 deadline was. Or is it better not to? After all, if it were not strict they may consider my app for scholarships anyway.

I called the UofR admissions, and they said that the deadline for ALL decisions (regular and also, regular w/ merit) was Jan 1st (merit was changed from Dec1st to Jan 1st.this year) so no worries.

Good to know. The Dec. 1 date was a little tough to deal with last year, since D did not apply ED.

Great news, soulkiller2. Looks like I have a chance! I really need merit money to go to Rochester.

Is it true that national merit finalists are guaranteed $10,000/year?

Apparently.

National Merit, National Hispanic, and National Achievement Scholarships
The University sponsors renewable scholarships in the amount of $2,000 annually for selected finalists who designate Rochester as their first choice institution. Every National Merit and National Achievement Finalist will also receive at least $10,000 in other University scholarships.

I'm not sure if the $10,000 is only if you designate Rochester as your first choice, or available if you're a finalist anyway.

You should check with admissions on that.

Daughter was a NM finalist last year. She indicated UR was her first choice, and received a 10K per year Rush Rhees scholarship along with the 2K NM scholarship.

Yes, it does happen!

Even better, she couldn't be happier at UR.

same here Dancinggirl!, im also vying for the merit money!

wait... where did it say that the deadlien for merit was jan 1st????

darnit im screwed

The deadline for your application was January 1. If you applied in time, you're eligible for merit aid. Rochester doesn't have a separate merit aid application process.

From Rochester's website:

University of Rochester : Apply : Deadlines

They didn't hide it.

wait... say what? everythign was due jan 1st.... ok.. i am the spazziest eprson ever... bc i submitted my app before the deadline.. so we're all good

wow... excuse that melodramtic interupption

sorry!!!

Glad to hear that! I had a feeling you were confusing the financial aid application with the admissions application. Merit aid at Rochester doesn't require an FA application, and is handled by the admissions office, not the FA office.

Actually, I was confusing it with the Oberlin application... lol
Thank goodness i mixed up my deadlines after everythign's been submitted and not before....
