Merit Scholarships

If you received a merit scholarship from UCF can you please post your scores(SAT and/or ACT).. and possibly the award?

Thank you.

I am trying to determine if I am eligible for any merit awards.

I received the Pegasus Gold about two weeks after my acceptance letter.
SAT- 1340/2040
ACT-28
Bright Futures GPA-4.34

My son received the Pegasus Gold ($10,000). His scores are: 1390/2120 SAT
30 ACT
Core Academic GPA 4.4

My d received the Pegasus Gold. Her scores: 1440/2040 SAT, 35 ACT. Don't know weighted UCF GPA, but she has a 4.0 u.w. GPA, which is weighted at 4.6 at the High School. The core GPA would be higher as we would be taking out all of the 4.0 non-core classes.

I got the pegasus bronze award, but only after a scholarship appeal:

SAT- 1370
ACT- 32
Academic Weighted GPA- 3.9

I got the Pegasus gold about a week after acceptance letter:

(Didn't submit my SAT)
ACT: 33
Weighted GPA: 4.7 ish

Why did your daughter choose UCF with those stats? UCF is a fine school but she is far superior to almost all students going there. I only ask because my daughter may be in the same position.

She hasn't chosen UCF, actually. She's keeping it open as a possibility. She's also applied to UF and GaTech. She's been admitted to GaTech, and she's in the running for a presidential scholarship there. Obviously, we won't hear from UF until Feb. 13th. She won't be making any decisions until she has heard from all schools, and she knows what her options are as far as merit money, too. Our S is at UCF, and he and we love the school, especially the honors college. In fact, the honors college is a big draw to that school (and all of the perks/nurturing/etc. that goes with that). UCF is also local for us, and therefore, as we've encouraged our s to live on campus, he has his freedom, but he's also able to pop in and do laundry or go out to lunch with his dad once a week. These are "intangibles" that others schools don't provide.

Our d is different than her brother. Her stats are more impressive, and it does open up other opportunities. However, she doesn't want to be too far from home. In fact, Atlanta's pushing it. (that's why she didn't apply to MIT, actually). However, as engineering is her field of choice, her father (an engineer) encouraged her to visit GaTech, and she went from "not over my dead body" to wow ... there are a lot of opportunities there (especially with their strong co-op and internship program), and when she made semi-finalist for the President's ... she has seriously put Tech in the mix.

So, essentially her thinking as of ... hmmm... what day is today? LOL Her first love is UF, and it has a very fine engineering school. However, she's been less than enthused with their honors program (comparing it to UCF), and her feeling from UF that she's just one of a gazillion other kids and who cares if she comes there or not .... not trying to start a fight, but that's the vibe she gets from them. And UCF and GaTech are "courting" her, and that's a very nice feeling ... knowing that someone wants you to come, and wants to keep an eye on you, and wants to help mentor you. So, in the end ... we'll see. Regretably, UCF doesn't have chemE, which is her first choice thus far ... she'd probably go MechE for her undergrad if she went to UCF. Probably, in the end .... she'll probably be at UF or Gatech because their engineering programs are better suited for what she needs, but it will be difficulty giving up UCF, too. Sigh ... says her mom, LOL, who wouldn't mind her staying close ... but them's the breaks. <g></g>

zebes, sorry for being so convoluted ... we go back and forth on an hourly basis with the what "if"s.

P.S. Her Dad and I are both products of the state school system. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue ... okay, he went to Rose Hulman for his undergrad, but it's not IVY by any means, and I went to BGSU in Ohio and Purdue for Grad School. For us personally (everyone's different), we've always gone where we can afford to go without accruing debt, and in the case of grad school (LOL) where Purdue paid us. <g> So, we've encouraged our kids the same way ... go to an accredited institution that works for you and make your own opportunities. We've been pleased thus far ;)</g>

How do you compute weighted core gpa. Is it +0.25 for honors and +0.50 for AP/IB like bright futures. How can you get 4.7 ? Or is it +0.5 and +1.0

Ga Tech is about as good as it gets in the south. If Ga Tech doesn't come up with scholarship money, has she considered Auburn? Fine engineering program and some of the most generous scholarship offers in the country. Also, I am very impressed by their honors program.

I appreciate the SAT/ACT information.

Hopefully, my scores for the Dec. 6 SAT will be high enough for a Pegasus Scholarship.

I have taken the SAT twice already and received a 1200 - 550 CR and 650 Math. I know that I have improved greatly since then- so I will see on Dec. 23- that will sure make an amazing Christmas.

Also, I sent my enrollment papers in today, along with my Honors application... so I am officially a UCF student. Even though I haven't heard from UF, I can not see myself anywhere but UCF. Now I just have to turn down the other 3 colleges that I have been accepted to.

Anyone know the amount of this scholarship?
Can't find it anywhere on their web site.

Bright Futures is + 0.5 honors and + 1 AP. I'm pretty sure UCF is similar.

Just receive new SAT scores..

1250/1600 (Math-670 CR-580)
Any chance?
