i got in on the 11th..i really i hope i get some sort of scholarship, because i definitely need it. i wish my parents would hurry up with getting their tax stuff together for the PROFILE.

Did anyone hear about the Gloria Wille Bell and Carlos R. Bell Charitable Trust? I got a letter saying I qualify to apply, but I don't really know what I'm supposed to write for the essay. I'm sure they're really picky though-- only 5 get in. My chances are looking pretty slim especially now.

i also got the tradition scholarship in early november. got accepted on the 31st

ab2013, I assume you would have a shot...but the odds are against you. There are dozens of kids from the Detroit area with stats just as good as yours.

I was accepted right before thanksgiving, got a 10k/yr scholarship like two weeks ago I believe. Don't remember exactly.

flit, where did u find out that only 5 people get the Bell scholarship? i couldn't find it on the letter, or online.

My scholarships arrived over Christmas vacation. I didn't specifically apply for any scholarships. I got a total of $11,500 from UMich itself- a $10,000/yr alumni scholarship and a $1,500/yr regents merit scholarship even though I do not qualify for financial aid. In combination with my $3,000/yr psat merit scholarship and the $1,000/yr michigan merit exam scholarship, I could technically go to U of M for less than $10,000/yr in state. I was really excited, but unfortunatly I'm not going-- I'm heading to Columbia in NYC! :D
I have pretty good stats in terms of being well-rounded. I'm an accomplished pianist, I do lab research, I take multiple upper-level classes in French and Calc at Michigan State in addition to a full HS schedule, and my SAT's were in the 2300s. Good luck to all of you!

^ Oops sorry I forgot to mention I'm 1/2 minority (1/2 Barbados 1/2 India)

so if i was accepted right before thanksgiving, then i'm probably not getting anything?

flit and undeniablyasain: i got the letter and am applying for the bell scholarship also. if you look at the recipients online you can see that five receive it per year. i wonder how many other people are applying...

idk. the scholarship is very much restricted to applicants from virginia, chicago, and southeast michigan, so the applicant pool has been super-shrunk. that luckily also eliminates the uber-students from privates and magnets in california, texas, new york, and the rest of new england. but i guess in the end, all one can do is just apply and hope for the best

can you apply for the bell scholarship if you already have the tradition scholarship? And if you get it does that then nullify the tradition scholarship?

spring204 - to apply for the bell scholarship, you have to receive a letter telling you that you qualify for it. if you have the letter, you only have to write a one page essay to apply - might as well throw your name in and see if you can get it and maybe end up with close to a full ride... but i honestly don't know how the tradition scholarship works with other schlarships
