As far as I know the Merit ones don’t have anything to do with income. Odyssey ones are need based. The two I know from our high school that got the $10k one are both students with very high stats, $0 FA. One just checked the box. The other one checked the box and did 6 supplemental essays.

The 10k and full tuition scholarships are pure merit, no financial need required.

As I have posted previously, if you were accepted EA and subsequently get some nice awards/recognition, forward that info to your regional rep. You never know what may trigger the selection committee’s process.

I honestly am very impressed. Wow. Must’ve been very passionate, considering he/she was basically shooting a bunch of essays into what might turn out to be a black hole. =|

6 supplemental essays about what if I may ask.

^^^^^Some were columns/articles for the school newspaper, others were graded papers from TOK and AP History classes (1-2 pages long at the most).

I’m surprised the admissions officers mustered the energy to read all of that. Must have been a superb writer.

The AdCom had done the heavy reading and accepted him EA. This was something for the Faculty Committee to see before they decided to award somebody $40k over the next four years. And yes, the writing was very good.

I’m hoping my specificity in classics gives me a chance at the merit scholarships, because there’s no way I’m affording Chicago without one.

I guess now all there is to do is wait.

Only three more months of waiting, guys.
