Has anyone gotten a Merit Scholarship yet? If so, could you please post your stats?

I really want to go here but I don't think my parent will let me unless I get money. I'm pretty anxious about it.

I would love to hear, too, when people start to receive merit aid. If you sign on to the mysandiego.edu student portal, there was a little write up somewhere saying that financial aid and merit aid packages will be sent out in early to mid march. I wrote about it somewhere else on another thread here on the usd thread.

This is what the email I received the other day says…
"First, please remember that if you and your family will be applying for need-based financial aid, the priority deadline for completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is March 2. In addition, we will be making our merit scholarship selections during the first week of March and you will be notified by mail should you be eligible "

I emailed a guy at admissions as well as looked here
([USD: Admissions: Undergraduate Admissions: High School Guidance Counselors: Scholarship Information](http://www.sandiego.edu/admissions/undergraduate/counselor/scholarship.php))
on the website and both confirmed that you should hear back from merit scholarships in the beginning-middle of march.

Keep in mind that the school has to send out scholarships with enough time for students to enroll in the honors program (deadline for the application is April 1) so it shouldn’t be too much longer before people start hearing back.

Are there any past applicants who recieved Merit scholarship that could post their high school stats?

My D received a merit scholarship today for $15,000 per year for Trustee Scholar. Her stats were 3.82 unweighted gpa and 30 act.

My son was accepted today. He got the merit scholarship for 20,000 dollars a year.
His unweighted is 3.8 weighted is 4.2
SAT 2170

D got scholarship today for $20,000. Very exciting. Her ACT was 31, weighted 4.3ish? Unweighted 3.9. OK EC’s, not many but high involvement. 3 AP tests with high scores, two SAT II’s 700 and 720. Good essay and good recommedations. Hope others get good news as well! Think a trip to SD is in order!

Does anyone know the difference between the Presidential and Trustee scholarships? My D received a Trustee award for $15,000, and she has similar stats to those of you who’ve posted $20,000 awards. Wondering what the difference is?

I got the Alcala award for $20,000, 4.4WGPA, 32ACT

My D got the Alcala award as well. 4.1 WGPA, 2180 SAT and high AP test scores. (two 5’s, the rest 4’s, one 3.) She was also invited to apply for Honors Program. However she is not sure about attending. We have not visited the school. She is waiting to hear from Georgetown, Berkeley and Brown. Any insights by those for whom it is a top choice? Good luck to all the rest.

Are you able to check on scholarship information through the USD online portal? I saw my acceptance online, but have not received anything in the mail yet…

i got the alcala scholarship

2120 sats, 780 math 2, 690 ushistory
3.9/4.2

for those who received merit scholarships already, was financial aid awards also included in it? or are they going to give it to us separately?

My D has an unweighted GPA of 3.9, weighted of 4.06 and ACT of 30 and was awarded the $10,000 presidential scholarship. Was really hoping for the Trustee award. It was the difference between being able to go or not. Just wondering what your daughter’s weighted GPA was.

I got the Alcala award, and I was invited to the Honors program as well.

Weighted, 4.07. Unweighted, 3.81
SAT: 2130
SAT II: Biology: 710; Literature: 720
AP Bio - 5, AP Art History - 4. Taking AP Stats this year.

All but the last two posters were from last year. :)

Congrats on the Alcala, wickefied! When did you hear from USD?

My D got the Alcala -

SAT: 2100
ACT: 29
GPA (W/UW): 3.9/4.38
EC: quite a few

She has acceptances from UCSD, USD (60% tuition scholarship), SLO, Chapman ($25K/yr), Pepperdine (no aid yet ?) (BTW - if there is another thread or forum to post the discussion of how to make the decision between the schools above - please lmk)

Any idea/pointers as to how to help her make a decision - we are planning to visit.

She is interested in Business and has been admitted to Business at USD and Econ at UCSD and Business at SLO.

I think she like smaller sizes, but I am concerned about the brand recognition of USD vs UCSD. Also - heard that the various colleges at UCSD give you the small school feel ?

Thoughts ?

I got the Alcala scholarship
4.0 gpa (valedictorian)
32 act
lots of ap classes
I’ve been accepted to Pepperdine, USC, Boston College, and UW Madison.
