I just got into UVM engineering school. I had a 3.4 and 2010 SATs (750M, 590CR, 670W). I got my letter a couple of weeks ago but it didn't mention anything about financial aid, merit or anything. This was a VIP/EA app. Does this mean I won't get anything or will that come later?

I’m wondering the same thing. I’m also wondering about the honors college

When my daughter got accepted here a few years back with the vip application, merit and financial aid did not come till the regular decisions went out in the spring. I think you have to wait till then.

UVM web site says re Honors College that the decision to admit to Honors College is made after you tell UVM you plan to attend. So, what if you are willing to enroll only if you can be in Honors College? Do you have to plunk down your deposit and lose it if you aren’t invited to Honors and decide to go elsewhere?

royal73, where did you see that? It’s definitely not true. I got accepted to the Honors College a couple of weeks ago (it came in a separate letter about a week later from my UVM College of Arts & Sciences admission).

My daughter just today received a merit letter with a $5,000 per year scholarship. We are OOS and her stats are a bit lower than yours. Hang in there and watch the mail.

i was just notified of a 6000/year scholarship. I was accepted about 10 days ago. Im happy about the scholarship but uvm’s scholarships for oos are pretty lame.

DD got in with a 3.02 unweighted GPA and a 28 ACT. Merit letter came today offering $1000 per year. Her other two acceptances came with $12,500 and $15,000 per year. I expected UVM to be low, but my gosh, not that low. We are OOS too.

honors college letters are supposed to be sent within three weeks of being accepted to the college. Merit scholarships also are not supposed to be large and to be perfectly honest I am surprised a 3.02 got anything, I have a 3.9 and a 31 act and assuming I get in I would be shocked with anything too much more than 3000 to 5000.

DS just got $3000, 1300/1940 SAT and 3.4 GPA
He got his acceptance letter about 3 weeks ago

Gee, no need to be insulting–we’re all in this together, lol. Obviously it’s about more than the GPA or an unweighted 3.02 wouldn’t have even gotten her accepted. This doesn’t jive at all with the research we did on the average awards from UVM, or with what other OOS families with kids there have told us. We’ve actually had two different tour guides tell us on two separate visits that their awards helped seal their decision to attend over other oos schools. I almost wish they had rejected her, as UVM has been one of her top choices since 10th grade. Before anyone starts lecturing, she is well-prepared for the (now even stronger) possibliity that we can’t afford to send her there, but she felt she wanted to try.

My son also received only $1000/year award. I have heard that the budget cuts this year were devastating to UVM and that they have lost many professors as a result. I think they need OOS $$$ to balance their budget and are not going to give the kinds of awards the have in the past. My son is likely to go to New Paltz (we are NY residents) instead of UVM, although it has been his top choice. I think it is important that the students apply even if the final decision is that a particular school is not the right choice for the family. Learning to make hard choices is part of becoming an adult.

My son was accepted into the Honors program and just received a $6,000/yr Presidential scholarship. He has a 3.7 UWGPA and 32 ACT. We are OOS. He is also applying to Syracuse/Newhouse, Penn, Michigan, USC, WashU, Brandeis and BU but I think he’d be happy at UVM if the others don’t work out.
