Merrill Lynch PWM Internship

Has anyone interned for Merrill Lynch's Private Wealth Management division? What was it like??

I would like to know this as well. Has anyone had a ML PWM internship their sophomore year and later leveraged it into a junior year investment banking internship?

Yes, I did. What you do in that internship really depends on the financial advisor under whom you will work with. If you work with one who is willing to teach you a lot, then it will be a rewarding experience. Nonetheless, having the brand name “Merrill Lynch” on your resume will count a lot.

Specifically, I didn’t do that much in the internship, but I used to to leverage into IB and hedge fund offers for my junior year summer.

I also have an internship with ML this summer, i was wondering if they administered drug testing for summer interns?

All PWM internships are usually bs work, but it varies drastically for each intern. You have a small chance at doing some really quality work as well. But, bs work or not, it’s a good internship to have as a first internship because of the Merrill Lynch brand name. I wouldn’t recommend it if you are a junior/senior because they don’t recruit you back for full time and you don’t build any skill sets from it, but it is excellent for freshmen/sophomore.

It depends on what you make of it. Jim Cramer from CNBC (Mad Money) worked at GS PWM and then from there started a pretty successful hedge fund
