Merry Christmas! - Please chance me, I would REALLY appreciate it!

Hi, I am from a state university from Illinois. This year, I got into Cornell as a transfer student. However, because of lack of financial aid, I will stay at my current university. This year, I will be a sophomore with senior standing (due to AP Credit). However, I would like to attend UPenn for the Fall 2012 semester! I was wondering if anyone could chance me?

High School Stats:
ACT: Super score was a 30, 29 regular
SAT: Didn't take them
SAT II's: Didn't take them.
Had a weighted GPA of 4.65/4.00
Took 13 AP Classes
AP Scholar w/ Distinction
Did not take the PSAT's (stupid me lol)
Ranked 3rd out of 500 students.

College Stats:
Took 18 credits every semester so far
Due to AP credit, most were courses for my major and were junior/sophomore level courses.
One spanish course was at the 300 level.
Current GPA is 3.90
The courses, in my opinion, were rigorous.

I am applying for Political Science and Spanish.

My passion is to become a doctor one day, working with Latino and underserved patients. i

Extracurriculars:
Research for Spanish
Helping the Latino center at my school
Working with immigration organizations around Chicago and helping undocumented students
A Hispanic Medicine Organization
Homeless Shelter
I am also planning on helping at a public hospital
A bunch of other administrative organizations aimed at recruiting and retaining minorities

Also, here are some hooks:
Mexican-American
First Generation
Low Income
First to go to college
Activism with immigration reform within my state
Parents only had a grade school education

As you can see, I didn't spread myself too thinly in college because I wanted to demonstrate my passion to help the Latino/undocumented community. I think UPenn would be perfect for me because of its academic and social environment, the resources they provide to undocumented students, and because I feel like I could change UPenn's community by making them become more aware of undocumented students. Also, I want to work within UPenn to initiate a version of the Dream Act within Pennsylvania.

I chose political science because I am heavily involved in politics and I want to be able to develop my speaking/writing skills in order to become a better versed physician. And, Spanish because I want to retain my spanish fluency and maintain an appreciation of my culture.

With that being said, I am applying to these schools:

UPenn
UChicago
Yale
Amherst
Brown
Maybe Dartmouth?

Please, be very honest. Thank you :)

Do you need FA?

First, do you understand you’d have to stay at all of these schools at least 2 years? They do not accept senior transfers and every student must be in residence 2 full years.

Second, do you realize many of your AP credits won’t transfer? These colleges gives less credit for APs than more average colleges.

Why not just finish the year, graduate and look at these schools for gaduate study?

I was planning on staying all four years bcause I’m double majoring with premed and I know that my ap credits won’t transfer, which is okay. Also, money is not an issue. With that being said, what are my chances? Bumpppppppp

You need to go back and read the websites for these colleges. Schools of this caliber often don’t accept transfers with more than 2 yrs of credit AND don’t let transfer students hang on for 4 yrs. For instance, Y states:

[Transfer Program | Yale College Admissions](http://admissions.yale.edu/transfer#eligible)

I don’t understand how you can be from a low income family but money isn’t an issue? Also, B is need aware for transfer applicants and has limited FA for transfers:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/936056-brown-transfer-applicant-survey-fa-need-aware-admissions.html?highlight=need+aware

First gen, first to go to college and parents only had a grade school education are all a single tip factor.

I meant staying all four years in college. And I will look into ap credit.

Yal es websites says ap credit is not transferable so i still have less than two years

I’m a bit confused. If you’re currently a sophomore and have been taking 18 (presumably transferrable) credits per semester rather than the standard 15, then you will have more than two years worth of transferrable credits (72, rather than 60-ish) and will thus have too many for admission. Perhaps email the individual colleges and ask about the amount of credit you’ve accrued, and how they measure two years (two calendar years, four semesters, or a certain amount of credits)?

I understand that and its very confusing. I don’t think I should be penalized for taking a full course load either way. I think Penn’s website stated that they do not pre-evaluate credits, so I’m fine with that college. As for Yale, I already e-mailed them. Thank you for bringing up this issue :)

I know that when I got into Cornell, I had like 60 something credits, yet I only received 30 credits. Even though I had physically taken 18 credits every semester not counting the AP credits. For this reason, I think they don’t really care that much about credit until after you have been admitted. Plus, not all courses transfer over.

please, can anyone just chance me? bumppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

Bumpppppppp
