In short, it is saying that admissions officers get saddened when they see a student taking, literally, the most complicated senior load while not paying a modicum of interest to whatever he likes, be it theater or athletics or community service.
Keep this in mind. I also second @bodangles comment. Though my opinion is really a fact, some colleges may beg to disagree.
