Well here's the thing, I go to a very competitive public school in the Bay Area, where we send about 16 people to Stanford and 33 to Berkeley every year, and were ranked 50th in the nation by US News. As a freshman, I didn't really care about school so both semesters I got a 3.571 GPA (4 As, 3 Bs). Sophomore year, I had a 4.0 (we aren't allowed to take AP's) and Junior Year, lets theoretically say Ill have a 4.0 uw with 4 AP's and 2 Honors. Since the UC's, Stanford, and Princeton only really take into account soph + junior year (some senior), they will see me as a 4.0 UW + valedictorian. For other schools I'm considering, such as Northwestern, when I write down GPA, I will have about 3.8 UW, which is not nearly as competetive as 4.0. Would you guys recommend sending in my transcript, showing I have a 4.0 from sophomore year on?

OMG.. you are worrying? Damn, I am in a deap hole then if you are worrying about 4 A's and 3 B's. I got something like 2 C's, 4 B's and one A. But I was really not caring about school then until the end of the year (I got almost straight A's in the last marking periods.)

I hope my potential excellence in the next 3 years would make up for this.

3.8 is not viewed as drastically less caliber than 4.0, believe me, it's a lot more than grades that make an impression on the top schools, you're def in the right range grade-wise

YOU ARE ALL LUCKY! I got 1 A- 3 B's- 3 C's and 2 D's lol is that really bad?

well luckily for you, Canadian, and myself, I think colleges like to see an improvement. So if we study our ass off this year I think we can do it.

:D We can do it!

Oh wow, thanks you guys! I think I was just getting a little too nervous from reading the "What are my chances, Im a URM who was raised in a abusive household, 22 AP's all 5's, 2390 SATI, triple 800 SATII, 4.99999 GPA".

I've heard a lot of colleges don't look heavily on applicants' freshmen year because they believe it's "the time of change." And your grade is not bad, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

lol hey A-San thanks. lol. yea IM WORKIN MYY BALLS OFF!

Your already in school? lol. Well you got a head start :) You got MSN, I'll probably IM you later if I'm not tired from tennis lessons... (only my 7th lesson, and I LOVE IT)

oh gosh...seriously, do not worry about FRESHMAN year. Most college disregard it, and as long as sophmore/junior/senior year are all improvements and up there you are so perfectly fine, it's sick that you are worrying.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, I'm just bitter. I had a bad sophmore year (far worse than your freshman year - lets just say, end of freshman year, 3.8 and then end of sophmore it dropped to a 3.1), and even with an up trend, I'm finding it impossible to raise it but .1 or .2 by mid senior year for colleges.

A lot of high schools in Canada go from grades 10-12, which means that if you apply here, the chance of them looking at your freshman year is considerably lower.

Doesn't your school send your transcript anyway?

DaTurtle, where do you go to school? SI? or paly?

I go to Gunn. Wow guys, thanks a lot for the responses, I really mean it. I was worried that I tried so hard to maintain a 4.0 since soph year, and some stupid slacking off freshman year ruined it for me. Thanks!

hahahahahaha fool i already told you dont worry about freshman year

stanford doesnt look at freshman grades, if that calms any nerves =).

Why are you wondering at all?!
