Last night, upon submitting my app to the UF honors college, I noticed that I had made three glaring mistakes. The essay I submitted didn’t indicate which prompt it was answering (I did the choose your own promo option so I could just submit my common app essay), I left the honors and distinctions category blank by mistake, and the description of community service and work experience was done in bullet points (I think this ones fine but I’m not sure). Will these mistakes greatly affect my application?
I wouldn’t worry too much but it is never good to leave stuff blank. Also, they specifically say in the admissions office not to answer in bullet points but it may be different for the honors college so you never know.
Do you think that with an otherwise strong application, these errors could cause me to be rejected?
Oh boy… my daughter did some of these as well. Where would you have said which prompt you were answering? (She also picked choose your own topic.) And In all of our searches we never saw anything about not answering in bullet points (she only answered a few in bullet points; more like lists for extracurricular.) now you’ve got me worried for her…
I used the bullet point method for the Employment and Community Service boxes and was even offered a $32,000 scholarship from UF…so I really don’t think it matters. They just want to see the content itself and that you are consistent with whatever formatting.
Wait…we had to say which prompt we were answering? Where was this supposed to be written?
@PhilM1 - no there is not need to say what prompt you are using.
@Melissa96 Ok thanks! I don’t even remember anything on the app asking that
Thanks for all the responses! I’m guessing that most of my issues were born from my paranoia. I’ve realized that there was no need to choose a prompt and bullet points were okay (I think at least…). Sorry for stressing anybody out!
Sorry I should clarify…if you answered in bullet points thats fine but they want you to explain what you learned and gained from an experience…like if youre employment section was
-I woked at Walmart for 2 years in highschool
theyre not gonna like that…they want to know what that job taught you and the skills you gained form it
