Messed up my freshman year HELP with school choices!

So in high school I did very well. Lots of extracurriculars and volunteering. Had a 3.8 GPA and did decent on the SAT with a 1600.

I got into Chico State, Azusa Pacific, Sonoma State, and UC Santa Cruz. I chose UCSC because it was the best school I got into. My mom had some health problems and I had to drive home every weekend. Ended freshman year with a 2.08 :(((

My moms better now and I want to transfer out of state because CA's budget is awful...I'm a current VA resident from sacramento. I'm going to a local community college to work and get my grades up. But I want to transfer to these schools for fall 2013 so please help an give advice!

Univ of Nevada, Reno
UC Davis
Univ of Arizona
Boise State University
Univ of Alabama
Univ of Georgia
Chico State
Univ of Texas, Austin
Texas A&M
Ohio State
Louisiana State Univ
Univ of Virginia
Univ of Colorado, Boulder
I know some are a stretch but I have good writing skills for a personal statement

I’m not sure I understand why you want to transfer. How does the budget impact you? Why is UCD ond Chico on the list? I think UCD is great, if you get in, but won’t be any easier than UCSC. Do you have a plan to pay? I’m guessing some of the schools are parts of the exchange with California, right?

Anyway, the obvious suggestion is to work on your GPA, but applications for the California public schools will be due before you can do much. Do you know if thereof a minimum grade to transfer into any of those schools?

I just don’t like the atmosphere of UCSC I chose the complete wrong school for me. I chose Chico as kind of a back up/safety and UC Davis just in case I decide to stay in CA. I looked online and a lot just said a “C-” or better in classes. I know for UT at Austin I have to have a resume for the past 5 years and write 2 essays
