Messed up pretty bad first semester of sophmore HS

This semester I pulled a 4.17 with no A-'s, potentially have the opportunity to get even 4 A +'s. I was hoping to get into either UCLA or Cal and i'm going for a 5.0, 2100 + SAT score (had 2150 on PSAT), and the national merit next year to make up for my earlier blunders.

The problem that lies ahead is my first semester grades. I came out with a 3.6, three B's and 2 A-'s, mainly because I had 46 total period absences due to reconstructive spine surgery. I've talked to my orthopedic surgeon, my HS counselor, and a former UCLA professor, and they all said it's probably exempt. My dick friends on the other hand, keep disregarding their opinions, deeming them "old". Honestly, they're starting to **** me off, I just want to put my mind to rest.

So how does this affect both my GPA and chances of getting to the top 2 UC schools???

You can have your GC send them a note explaining what contributed to your semester being slightly below expectations. If you do well across the rest of your semesters and Cal/LA is aware of the extenuating circumstances, they will be ok with the one-off semester.

Is this a speculation or an actual fact? I can’t really find anything online pertaining to this subject.

Antarius is completely correct. Cheezer there is nothing to worry about it, aslong as you have the proof of your circumstances.
