I'm currently a senior and my gpa is 2.49 ad i got a 1250 on my sat and haven't taken my ACT but I will next month, I don't want to go to a community college and I live in Virginia. Do I have a chance? My dad had a hemorragic stroke 9th grade and that sort of threw me off and he had another one during my sophomore year and once again I got thrown off because he wasin the hospital/recovery center for months.

Hey, I was kind of in the same boat as you. I didn’t really do all that well in high school, and I was really mad at myself when it came time to apply for college and I wasn’t a strong applicant. I don’t know if you have a shot at a big school like UVA or VT with your numbers, but I’m going to tell you that going to a smaller school first really isn’t so bad. I didn’t go to my first choice school, worked hard, took summer classes and now I’m at UGA, which is where I really wanted to be. My point is, at community college or wherever you go, you can make up for all the problems you faced in high school with just 2 or 3 semesters of hard work. I’m with all my friends again, am a great student now, and have never been happier.

Good luck!

Thats great but how many semesters did you do at the smaller college?

I went for 3 semesters including summer I went all of my freshman year, then the summer after that, then I was accepted the following fall.

Apply to George Mason. Write about what happened in your essay and I think you have a good chance of getting in :)
