I like my messenger bag because it’s more accessible than a backpack, but it’s incredibly difficult to bike wearing a messenger bag, especially if it has any weight in it, so go with a backpack.

I’ll reiterate: Backpacks suck! They’re bulky and uncomfortable and make it very inconvenient to retrieve anything!

…And I’m saying this after my first semester. I actually just used (large) purses and it worked out just fine! The only time I used any other bag was when I had A&P lab and had to bring multiple books.

Next semester, I’ll probably buy a tote bag because my laptop doesn’t really fit in my purses very well, but there’s no way I’m ever gonna use a backpack unless I’m on crutches!

I prefer messenger bags over backpacks personally. Everyone has their own preferences though, so see what you like best.

I love my massager bag, holds my laptop and books and junk!

back pack! Mine is by Nike and has a pocket for small laptops! they fit/feel better esp if you’re riding on a bike!

At my school, most people use a backpack because it is convenient and not as bad on a back. I have seen a lot of sorority girls use their sorority bag to bring their books to class.

I use both

<10 lbs…messenger

If I don’t have much to carry, I’ll just use the messenger. Plus, the messenger is smaller than my laptop backpacks, so I have more space and it’s easier for people to walk by me in the aisles of class.

i use a bookbag, but i suggest getting a backpack because it’s better for your back. although, sometimes i never bring a bag at all because all i need is a notebook…

if you’re riding a bike, use a backpack. Or do you want to screw up your back, and be vastly annoyed when you keep hitting your messenger bag with your knee? All those arguments about convenience are moot, you really shouldn’t be getting anything out of your bag while you’re riding your bike anyways.

I had a messenger bag at boarding school, switched to a backpack my first semester of college but then stopped using a bag altogether and just carry my notebook to class in hand, pen in my pocket. I love the feeling of not being weighed down and I never bring the wrong things to class, having thought they were already in my backpack.

I only use the backpack when I’m bringing my laptop somewhere, for the most part.
