Messiah College Visit

Hello, All. I just joined because child and I ended up visiting Messiah College strictly on the positive reviews I have read on College Confidential and wanted to give back since it was such a great tour and school. We are definitely applying now. It is the only Christian school we are applying to; all others are public and private universities.

I posted a lengthy visit report on Messiah's info if anyone is interested. Hope it helps!

Messiah is a good school but it is a liberal protestant school–maybe that’s what people are looking for, but for people who aren’t, buyer beware.

From their website, asianamericanson:

"Messiah College is a Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences. The College is committed to an embracing evangelical spirit rooted in the Anabaptist, Pietist and Wesleyan traditions of the Christian Church.

Our mission is to educate men and women toward maturity of intellect, character and Christian faith in preparation for lives of service, leadership and reconciliation in church and society."

Are you confusing “liberal arts” with “liberal”?

Besides, “liberal protestant” is not equal to “non-Christian,” though this school sounds fairly evangelical/conservative to me.

I know several kids who go to Messiah as it’s popular among Christian kids at school. Theologically, it’s definitely on the liberal side of the spectrum. Eastern is too.

For those who are more conservative, Geneva, Grove City, or Liberty tend to be popular options.

There’s nothing wrong with that if it’s the correct fit for the student. Any of these are decent academically pending what one wants, of course. ;)

Yep, we found out from some of our conservative Christian friends that this college is considered more on the liberal side. When we went there, we did feel like the vibe was conservative. There are certain things there that could be dealbreakers for some Christians, such as their view on evolution. For other strong Christians, that would not be a problem. We also talked to three people we know that graduated from there and are strong Christians/great people and loved it. We are looking at all types of colleges, but I definitely think those looking solely at Christian colleges might want to check it out!
