I'm at OCC right now. Have 12 credits complete. Originally planned to transfer to OU, but decided on Umich.

I met up with my counselor and he told me I need 57 credits to transfer to Umich. He told me that after I have 57 credits, I can get into Umich easily with a 3.0. He said GPA won't matter after I've got two years under my belt at CC.

Is this correct at all?

Yes that’s correct, assuming your father is Stephen Ross.

I think you misunderstood your counselor. He probably meant that after 57 credits at OCC, your high school GPA won’t matter. However, your GPA at OCC would have to be well over 3.5 GPA to have a reasonable chance of transferring into Michigan.

I was just going to say your counselor was an idiot, but Alexandre’s post makes more sense. It was probably a confusion about whether you meant high school GPA or OCC GPA. You should aim for as high as possible for your GPA, 3.6 is about as low as you should let it go.

Thanks for the responses! I’m leaning on the side of my counselor being an idiot. I specifically asked him if I could get into umich with a 3.1 and he said I could easily. He said the university is a lot easier on transfers due to the fact that they have taken college classes already. I’ve emailed a counselor at umich.

Are you sure he meant Ann Arbor, not Dearborn?
If you have a 3.1 you should definitely be trying to raise that. Yes, the GPA for transfers doesn’t have to be as high as it does for freshman admissions but they don’t just accept everyone from CC.
