Does the UVA bookstore accept Visa debit cards?

Also, I’ve been refunded enough money from the financial aid office to use that money to buy my books, but I have to wait until I receive that money. Will professors begin assigning during that first week and a half? And if I were to order my books next Saturday, would I receive them by the end of the weekend?

Yes they accept Visa debit cards. And you should just be able to go into the bookstore and purchase the books you need, not order them, they should be available. Also, you can charge to your student account directly at the bookstore if your aid refund is on your account. If not, they just send a notice that you have a new charge on your account.

I arranged to pick up my books at the bookstore. Will there be a long line on move-in day?

Probably We did too - but they do say to go to the 2nd floor for pick-up so I imagine they have methods to deal with the madness!

Do professors immediately begin their lessons or are the first one/two weeks about the class and syllabus?

^^ I have the same question

For purchasing textbooks online, a person at the bookstore told me that you can only charge it to your student account.

It depends on the professor, but most give you a week to get your books in order. Some don’t so be careful of this. They’ll explain more on the first day.

as hazelorb said, it will depend on the class/professor. Some might lecture the first day, some won’t, but they will be lecturing on day 2. I used to use half.com to buy books so I would holdoff buying books I wasn’t sure if I needed, but went ahead and ordered books I knew I would need (a math book) ahead of time.

The bookstore is packed the first few days, but they run a pretty smooth operation during peak season.

I was in the bookstore today and the lines weren’t too bad, and I went during peak time. The bookstore also accepts like, 50 types of payment haha.

Most profs won’t immediately start in intro level courses; if you’re in 300+ level classes, then that’s different. Also compare the prices you paid at the bookstore with prices online.

[Amazon Student](http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info)

^ Free 2 day shipping…2 day shipping is UH-mazing. if you order by like tomorrow, you’ll have them tues.

If you find that your books are cheaper online, then get them. And new books are great, but unless you are very particular, go for the used. There’s really no reason for a new book; they just cost more.

If you’re in CHEM141, you honestly don’t need a book for like 2 months. I didn’t have one at all first semester.
