Metrolink

Does anyone take the metrolink from their home to USC?

How long of a commute would that be taking metrolink then transferring to a bus or the usc union station shuttle(which only runs till 3pm)?

good point…from my home to USC is about 1 hour+ depending on traffic.
if no traffic 30 mins?

i didnt know the union station only ran till 3 :(

Theoretically you could transfer to the new exposition subway line when it is completed but that might not happen until 2011-2012 at this rate. You could take the Dash bus from union station but it would require transferring once. Dash runs from 6:30am-6:30pm on weekdays. So that would mean at least 45 minutes from union station to the NE corner of the campus via Dash. That would be without traffic or missing the transfer at 7th & flower.

So that on top of whatever the metrolink commute length is would total a substantial chunk of your day that you could be studying or involving yourself with extra curriculars. You’d also be hard pressed to involve yourself in nightlife near campus.

Just something to think about.

Commuting via Metrolink is extremely popular, especially for faculty and staff I believe. The afternoon shuttles to Union Station are packed and I have met a student who lived about an hour train ride away. It doesn’t waste time if you use the ride to do assignments or study (tasks that couldn’t be done sitting in traffic on the 110).

The schedule is somewhat misleading. Even though it says trams from the station to USC end at 3pm, there are in fact buses arriving throughout the afternoon and evening for commuters. You could certainly board one of these trams because it just makes a loop back to campus.

Check out [Auxiliary Services | Transportation | Tram Maps & Schedules](http://transnet.usc.edu/transit/routes.aspx) and click “UPC to Union Station”. You can see trams go to the station at least every hour, as late as 10 p.m. during the week.

Ah, I misread the tram information page. The last tram to campus FROM union station is in the afternoon but the tram that goes from campus to union station does indeed run late as Ned5555 mentioned so I stand thoroughly corrected. I suppose you could get a decent amount of reading done each day to and from campus? I still think you might be missing out on student life a bit due to the commute but that isn’t a top priority for everyone.

I take it often, its not too bad. Trams are pretty much on time and I’ve never had a problem with it.
