So I just got assigned to Mews Hall and I'm super excited! If anyone knows anything about it, its reputation, its vibe, and its features, please let me know!

it’s pretty new, built within the last decade. it’s right next to Appel, where one of the north campus dining halls is.

I’m pretty sure there is kind a suit set-up rather than straight hallways. that means you would share one bathroom with a couple of people. someone should please correct me if I’m wrong on that though.

I was in Mews freshman year…good memories!
The halls are set up somewhat similarly to a hotel, that’s what it reminded me of anyway.

They are in fact straight hallways…they call the living arrangement “suites” but it’s not really. Each room opens directly to the hallway, it’s not like the west campus suites, but every 3-4 rooms or so are set into a like 3-foot deep nook into the hallway (again picture like a hotel/motel hallway), and you share a bathroom with those people (4 other people)–which is amazing.

The building is new and very nice, with air conditioning. The common room is centered in the middle of the hall right by the stairs, and is a nice area where people hang out during big shows/games and people end up after going out on the weekends. It’s definitely not as loud or social as Donlon, but better than the Low/High rises I think. How fun your hall is really just depends on the people. Also at least for the first few weeks/first semester you’ll probably only hang out with your side of the hall (the hall is divided by the common room)

I think one of my favorite parts about Mews was the ability to get from Donlon/RPCC to Appel completely indoors (you can’t do that unless you can swipe into Mews)

That’s all I can think of right now but if you have any questions let me know!

Also are you east or west!? do you know yet? haha there’s a big divide/rivalry.

Oh, so does that mean that Donlon and Appel connect to Mews underground, or is there a connecting hallway, or what? Goodness, thank you so much for the information! It makes me excited! I didn’t know that the rooms opened directly into the hall, that’s really cool. Goodness, I feel so lucky right now. :)

And as for rooms and east and west and whatnot, I’m in 327C… what does that mean?

Plus, thank you so much for your detailed response! Ahhh, happiness. hahaha

OMG NO WAY haha I was 328 C…I think…or actually I might have been 327C. At least, I’m pretty sure I was one of those. And my boyfriend’s room was the other one! (he lived directly across from me) But if I was at 327C then you get to live next door to your RA too–haha

Mews is kind of a weirdly shaped building…it’s shaped like a U with a horizontal middle hall with only a ground floor and no rooms but a lounge on the north side, and two legs on the east and west sides that are 3 floors and have rooms. the east side is next to appel and the west side is next to donlon/rpcc

you’re on the west side btw.

I’m in Mews too! So exciting!

I was in Mews just this past year. I really enjoyed it! I agree its not as social as the other dorms perhaps but its still a great place to stay. It all depends really on how well you interact with the people on your side of the hall.

your dorm room is near my old one. West side of the building, third floor. The rooms in Mews are arranged pretty nicely and it is pretty spacious (as spacious as a dorm could get at any rate)

Being a fairly social person, I think it’ll be good for me to be in Mews as opposed to somewhere like Donlon… it’ll probably keep me a bit more focused even though I know that I’ll be able to still meet tons of new people.

I’m so glad that people say it seems to be nice and relatively spacious too! And plus, I guess a lot of it will be the luck of the draw for what my floormates will be like.

Is there anything that I should know? Like those mysterious quirks that you discover about a place? And thanks again to everyone who’s contributed information, I know SOOO much more now than I did before. :)

Okay, I have another question: what is the texture of the walls? Like will those wall decal sticky things stick to them, or is it that pin-board texture?

ummm they’re just like normal walls? there’s also a strip of corkboard along the wall below the ceiling on each side of the room so you could pin things up there

hahah alright, thanks for an answer to my random question. I’m looking for wall decals right now to brighten up my dorm room, but it would be sort of silly to bring them if the walls were that sort of corkboard pinboard texture. So thanks!
