Could any current students elaborate on the rooms in general and the quality of life (social, academic, etc.) in Mews Hall? Also, with a single in Mews, is it hard to socialize or do a lot of people leave their doors open when they are looking to hang out or do something?

I don't think Mews is particularly social, from the time I've spent pregaming there. My friend's roomate would leave the room to let us drink and none of the doors were open any time I was there. The dorm was also much quieter than my dorm (Dickson). I'm sure you can make it a social experience if you try, though.

I feel like the attitude being expressed on this site is that people are socially confined by the dorms they are placed in. You can make plenty of friends in other dorms and even if you're in the worst room on North campus, you will still have a great time if you're outgoing and make it fun. I spent half of my time in Donlon or on other floors because 5-6 kind of sucked. Having a single is sweet, though, no matter where it is. A single is basically your ticket to do whatever you want.

well said. basically, your building doesn't matter at all. some happen to be more social than others, but that doesn't mean that you won't be hanging out with those social people all the time.

Here are the floorplans from the days when it was still in the project stage. The "pod" layout is interesting : 2 doubles and 1 single grouped around a shared bathroom. There are also kitchens and lounges in each section.

My son was in the east section, just a few steps from North Star dining, the athletic center, soccer fields and the observatory. Very nice, and very convenient.

I had a single in Mews last year. It's one of the nicest dorms on campus asthetically, and is in great condition. The east side (Appell side) is a little far away from the other dorms, especially since a lot of kids hang out when its nice in the courtyard between court, dickson, donlon and balch. I enjoyed Mews, and it had a great study environment. Mews is much quieter than all of the other dorms though, and it didnt have the really social/party atmosphere like some of the other dorms. While it wouldve been cool to be in a more social dorm, there were tons of kids with diverse interests and I met a lot of kids that I really liked.

Strangely enough, I know very few people from Mews. I lived in the Townhouses but knew a bunch of people from each dorm... I'm not sure if that means they're less social or what, I can't say either way cause I'm not that familiar with it.
