Mews Hall

I just found out that I got a double in Mews Hall and was just wondering if people could give any more info on the place (other than the generic website information)...How is the suite-style living arrangement (pros and cons)? Is it a grueling walk from Mews to other locations on campus? How social is the dorm (as social as I hear Dickson is)? How is the space in the rooms given the suite-style set up? Also, I'm not completely sure how the co-ed situation is arranged...are guys and girls shattered randomly throughout the floor or is one half of a floor designated to a given sex? Complete or partial info is totally welcomed, also additional advice about dorm living is great too. Thanks!

I lived in Mews. Mews is physically one of the two best places to live (other being Court) because it is the newest built and as such furbished the best. Suites mean crap in Mews, you know/get along with suite mates just as well as anyone else on your half of the floor. The level of socialness for each dorm is a crap statement. Unless you live in either Balch (no guys), townhouses (less interaction with neighbors), or a program house (wierdos) your level of social interaction is based solely on the group of people you live with, i.e the socialness and character of a freshman halls varies vastly with each floor, or even half a floor. The space is small, you'll get used to it. Co-ed setup usually works like your suite (aka the 2 other rooms next to you) are all on one side of the hall and share a bathroom. Generally (in Mews/Court) the suite directly opposite of you has people of the opposite sex, sharing another bathroom. If you want you can usually catch them walking into the shower in a towel, hotness.

yeah mews is beautiful. Being that the building is 5 years old everything is pretty much up to date. Just because you live in Mews your social life isn't determined; the housing committee can't predict how social kids will be and put the intro/extroverts in one area...it's a toss up.

there are equal proportions of wierdos in dorms and program houses.

A suite is just a little half rectangle alcove with 2 doubles a single and a bathroom. None of the rooms are connected. Mews is definately one of the nicest places to live physically. I met a lot of great kids there, but it wasn't nearly as social as some other dorms (much quieter). If you are on the appell side you are a bit further from other dorms, but its not a big deal.
