Mexican vs. Hispanic ?!

Hello everyone!
I will be taking my AP tests in 2 weeks, my ACT in June, and applying to colle in the fall.
I am:
-1/2 Mexican and 1/2 Hispanic
-A US resident
-I am currently getting my US citizenship (I do not have it yet but probably will by the fall)
-1st generation that goes to college in the US

So what should I put in all those forms? I have noticed that there are 2 separate options: "Mexican" and "Hispanic". Which one is better? I find this sort of confusing. Also, what is the difference between "Hispanic" and "Latino"?

Any answers, links, etc... are greatly appreciated!

You can’t really discern between what is “better”, but for reference, Mexicans are one of the most disproportionately represented ethnicities in higher education. For URM purposes, a lot of grad school just regard Puerto Rican and Mexicans as underrepresented.

As far as undergrad goes, I’m pretty sure all Hispanics are given a boost. I’m not sure about the extent of boost, though.

Common Application asks if you are Hispanic/Latino. Check the box if you are. It does not ask you if you are Mexican.
