MFA in Design at SVA? Pratt?

Hello, I'm interested in the MFA in Design at School of the Visual Arts. Everybody I've talked to here in New York who's gone to SVA seems to rave about it, however they were all undergraduate students.

Anybody have any feedback on the program at this school? I'm interested in hearing first hand as well as anecdotal. The description of the program on the site sounds awesome. I'm particularly interested in the seeming inclusion of social marketing and socially conscious aspects of a design career (I currently design social marketing campaigns, typically around HIV and crystal meth use). I was getting pretty excited about it, but then a friend of mine, who researched SVA for their MFA Film program told me she heard/read a lot of awful reviews. But, that could be program specific, right?

I'm also interested in Pratt. Again, any feedback would be great!

Thanks ...
-Kevin

All design is socially conscious. design is a public service...it makes information accessible and useful to people. if not, it's art. That's my opinion, although some would argue that art may also have a social function. Focus your studies on learning how to compose a visual language first, and chose a program for this purpose. Then apply it to your area of interest.

thanks, but that wasn't my question.

anyone got any experience with design programs at SVA or Pratt?

You made an interesting comment, and I saw an opportunity to enlighten the general readership.

Hey RainingAgain, are you still teaching at SCAD?

I was not on the faculty.
