I'm an intl who got into both Mount Holyoke and Conn Coll.
I'm getting a better fin aid package which has no loans at Conn Coll, but which college would you recommend, based on...

The academica (I'm leaning towards Econ/Intl Relations), grad school and employment prospects, the dorms, the amiability of the people, the campus and activities etc.

Any input would be appreciated..thanks a lot :)

I know someone who goes to Conn College and she LOVES it there. She said the professors are great and are pretty much willing to bend over backwards to help students. She is an econ major and said economics majors go on to jobs in private banking and finance investment, consulting, and business and paralegal positions in law firms. Others enter computer science fields and government jobs.

She said some of the dorms have been recently renovated and now have air conditioning systems. The "camel van" provides students with transportation around the city and to other schools. The social life is very active on campus. Most party on thursday and saturday nights, hang out on friday, see a sports game in sat. and work on sundays.
The campus is very beautiful and she said in some areas you can over look long island and the thames. The students there find the facilities to be very satisfying and they love the athletic center ( on the thames river) Sports teams usually form close-knit groups and eat together due to early practices. She found it very easy to meet people her freshman year and found that is when the social groups formed. The Cro ( student center) holds " take the cro" weekends where there are many theme parties and student orginizations and show their projects.

Congrats comfortably-numb! For what it is worth.... according to all the "reports" MHC rates higher than ConnC in several areas. If attending a presitigous school is important - MHC is pretty high up on the list. Can't really go wrong there. It is a great school for IR and econ as well as having a very international student body. Good luck with your choice!

actually conn is a whole lot tougher to get into than mt holyoke, despite the USNews rankings.
both schools are great for IR, and gorgeous campuses.
however, there is a very different feel to conn than mt holyoke, for obvious reasons (co-ed), especially on weekends. conn has a much wilder nightlife (students work hard and play harder).

I am an MHC alum and not completely objective on this question but it's true that Conn Coll has risen in reputation more recently than MHC. Therefore there is probably a better established, more effective worldwide network of MHC alums in influential positions who would be willing to lend you a hand in professional settings. I have been back to the campus several times with my D in the last year and can confirm that it is still a very friendly community, full of smart and ambitious young women.
