MHC Senior Taking Questions

wow...Drlieber...its really nice of you to be doing this...
i got waitlisted as mount holyoke and the letter i got could get the world's most obscure letter of all time award...i mailed and that didnt work either...
so i am asking you-- could you please get some stats for me? relating to waitlisted students, as in, how many are waitlisted this yr, how many frm waitlist got in the previous year?? i am supposed to hear back mid-may...but im already in a panic attack...i might die...give a girl her last dying wish plz!
thnx.

oh and btw, i am an international student...heard of any intel that got in through the sheer indignant torture of the waitlist?

melissa rahman:
I am an international student and was also waitlisted when I applied to mount holyoke as a freshman.. I did the email thing but unfortunately it did not work out as I was not accepted. However , I think that great correspondence with the international admissions would be very helpful.
I currently got into mt holyoke as a transfer student and guess they saw that I was really interested in attending coupled with the fact that I kept my G.P.A high and was involved in the college I attend now...
I hope this helped...
p.s i do not have specific statistics of those accepted from the waitlist but I wish u all the best..

yea thnx...that is what i am doing...sent a huge package containing a recent achevement certificates and additional essays and a HUGE letter...i think the letter is sumthing round 900 words...i broke my own rule #1 of writing essays under 500...becasue those are decent to read...but i showed soo much depseration....i thought i guess that i got nothing to lose so i sent them a whole big package again...i m soo desperate right now...
on a sidenote...could you tell me if its eaqsier to get into a top LAC as a transfer or as a freshmen??
this yr, i am supposed to finish my A levels, and i can apply again, i am wondering if i should start some college and apply as a transfer student or freshmen? btw, i can only pay 10000/yr...need finaid

trying to transfer is a difficult task because your chances are a lot lower than when you are applying as a freshman...All you have to do is to keep your grades quite high if you decide to transfer and be active . Your essay is also a big part.. I woud just say is like a freshman application with lower chances of getting in.But u wld be a different candidate at Mt Holyoke because u have been waitlisted i.e u were almost accepted and applying again assures them that you really wanted to attend.
Overall, is harder to transfer into a top LAC. But u have a levels and stuff.. i did not have any of dat, I went to a public high school in Nigeria and only applied with O levels , ma SAT scores were not even dat high but i guess other things made up for dat and financial aid wld not be a big problem if u fill out your forms right...
p.s if u start in some college .. apply as a transfer. not a freshman

i was so confused about tht....thnx...cuz one advantage is tht when i applied this yr, i was only half-done with my a levels, u could say i applied a yr early...so um not quite going to be late next yr...and i am sooooo ED-ing in mount holyoke this time oh yeah!!

thnx a LOT LOT LOT for giving me tht first person advice, having been a transfer student yourself i know what you're saying is entirely from experience and honestly, this was an answer i needed...

ur welcum and anytime melissa.....

Ok, I know this is going to be really a-typical but mac or pc? Laptop or desktop? Also, how does getting books for first years work? I didn't see any book in the bookstore when I was there the last time.

Ice,

In terms of what kind of computer to get, it really should come down to personal preference. I know lots of people with laptops...lots with desktops...lots with macs etc. Each student is given a large chunk of webspace where you can store all your papers, class readings and other material that you will need to print off or work on, which means you don't need a laptop in order for your work to be "mobile." You can access your webspace from anywhere on campus, as well as from off campus by installing a small program (it's very easy!). I would go with whatever you are most comfortable with.

MHC gets its textbooks from the Odyssey bookstore which is located across the street in the Village Commons. If you ask though, most professors will email you the list of books they intend to use for the course which allows you to buy the books from Amazon etc. ahead of time. I think the website for the odyssey is www.odysseybks.com, but you can also find the info on the MHC website's Campus Life section.

Hope this helps!

is there any particular company that gets better cell phone service on campus?

I would say Verizon...I had cingular and there were just a lot of places where the signal just did not pick up or it would be fuzzy...Gawd, I can't wait to get out of my cingular contract in November! All my friends who had Verizon never had any problems :)
