I'm an Asian on the west coast. I'm thinking the SAT scores are going to hold me back. I'm looking at Engineering/Business. Schools are:

Harvard
Princeton
MIT
UPenn
Stanford
Carnegie Mellon
UC Berkeley
Caltech
Harvey Mudd
USC

Chances?

I'm confused about why your SAT is so low. Your SAT IIs and APs are great. But that's where it ends.

You play varsity football. Awesome. But that's basically it. Math club, NHS, and Science Club are all run of the mill.

If you can get into Berkeley in-state then go. It's the best bang for your buck and your best shot. You'll get USC though I think.

After that, especially for engineering, your chances aren't great. H, Y, P, M, S, CMU, and even CalTech have plenty of math-smart asian boys.

As far as the numbers game goes, you could conceivably get one or two. But the odds aren't great.

Refocus your list a little. Or really aim for Berkeley.

Your SAT scores are good, but Harvard/other ivies are looking for maybe 2200+ scores, especially since your profile is kind-of typical for Asian males. Your AP test scores and SAT II subject scores are great, so that is a boost. Perhaps try to take the ACT's, if you score well on those it could boost your profile. You might be able to get into one or two of the non-cali ivy league schools, but it is questionable. Getting into Carnegie mellon and UC berkeley is likely, but you still could be rejected. However, for cal tech, stanford, and harvey mudd, admission to those would be reaches (raising your writing/verbal scores for SATs might make a difference). For USC, you are a shoo-in if you have good essays/recs. Hope this helps

ive seen so many people with ur stats.

in fact, my stats are similar to yours. (except I have better ECs, and i'm the only one applying from my country, that will help me :P)

the top 5 in your list are reaches (if you get into one of them, it would be a miracle)(and caltech). too many people that have your stats apply there. and you don't have anything to stand out.

The rest you have 50-50 chances.

In my defense, football has really taken up a lot of my time as we pretty much have to train/practice all year long, including summer. A couple local newspapers pegged me as a possibility for the all-state team, but that just didn't happen in the end. I've had some scouts watch me, but no real big names since I'm Asian and I don't exactly have the typical tall build for a receiver. As for the SAT, I will be retaking them, and I think I can pull it up to the high 2200s and possibly break 2300. What would my chances me then?

I'm more optimistic about your chances than the above posters. Your SAT scores are outweighed by a slew of near-perfect ones, and you play football well, an unusual accomplishment for a top student.

And you have as good a chance as anybody if you can improve your SATs that much.

lol if he was black with those stats, everyone would say that he's in everywhere...i hate how asians have it harder than other races
