Miami University is included as one of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine. The February 2008 issue ranks Miami as the top bargain in Ohio and 31st nationally, up seven spots from 2007.

Ohio State was the only other Ohio school listed, at 37. Indiana University, Purdue University and Murray State were the only other tri-state schools ranked.

As a Miami alum, my opinion is that Miami does an exceptional job of providing an undergraduate education. After comparing notes with friends that went to other reputable institutions - Case Western Reserve, Northwestern, etc, I firmly believe Miami offers at least as strong an education (...and at a lower cost and with a better campus.) I was surrounded by other bright students, and I had to work very hard to get good grades. There is a healthy degree of competition among students. At the same time, Miami students are VERY social (no bookworms here), and there are endless ways to get involved and meet people. Some consider Miami a party school, but I had friends that did not drink, and they found plenty of activities to keep them busy. Work hard, play hard is definitely the mantra. I do, however, caution those that are particularly shy - you may be somewhat intimidated by Miami. Miami is not for those who prefer an urban environment or get homesick often. However, downtown Cincinnati is only 35-40 minutes away.
