Hello :)
I am in the process of applying to college. I want to stay home for college, so my options are UM, FIU, and Miami Dade. Well, FIU and Miami Dade because UM is WAAAAY too much money. I am majoring in Biology with Pre-med. If I go to FIU, I can open a pre-med file, start my pre-med classes, and get everything done, im guessing, better, in a more appealing way to medical schools(For the future)! If I go to Miami Dade they offer me a scholarship that pays the first 2 years, and then I can transfer to a university for my last 2 years. I would pick Miami Dade only because my family doesnt have much money, so the whole money situation gets in the way of everything, but all I can think of is when my future medical school options see my college/university!! Is it bad to go to a community college then transfer? Wouldnt it be better to start straight into a University? This si so hard/confusing :(
Thanks :)

Dude, stay away from Miami Dade…far away. Miami Dade is full of slacker students and slacker professors. I am not saying there aren’t good professors here, but for the most part they are worthless. I am a Bio major with a pre-med track just like you and it is brutal. I can’t wait to get to FIU. The advising here for pre-med is non-existent. One advisor will tell you one thing and another something completely different. Do yourself a favor and go to FIU. Financial aid will help you.

This is not the time to be messing around with your future. It is a FACT that med schools (and most professional schools for that matter) look down on community college. It sucks, but it’s true. If you try to go the cheap route, you WILL seriously diminish your chances of going to med school. Unfortunately for me, I have no other option and I am praying I can put together a competitive enough application when the time comes.

If you are serious about becoming a doctor, you will forget about having a good time and devote 100 percent of your efforts to being a TOP TOP TOP student. Med schools will accept nothing less. Best of luck!
