Miami HPME

Hey guys! I just got my email at 3:01 pm inviting me for interview! Good luck to all!

Hey, got interview e-mail same time as @futuremed12!! Good luck everyone.

didnt get interview, but got invite for Singer/Stamps weekend March 2 and 3

Same here, no interview and invite for Singer and Stamps.

No interview :frowning: too bad! I had really good stuff on my app. This, along with my Stanford rejection.

Got an interview too! Does anyone know how the questions are going to be like?

And also if there is another forum already talking about possible interview questions/how to answer please link here!

Am I the only one who still hasn’t received an email yet? ._.

no interview but invited for scholarship week as well.

to be honest, I’m kinda surprised. I thought this was one of the less competitive programs and I thought I was a strong applicant. perhaps they thought I was not serious about the program because I’m from new jersey? I know certain programs, though at private schools, favor nearby students because they think they are more likely to come. sadly, I was serious about miami since my parents are probably moving to florida when I graduate. ;(
oh well…

congrats to everyone who got it and i wish you the best of luck in the interview process! miller seems like a great school :)

@powerranger1, I think I saw some stuff on SDN, so search it up (sorry no link). It seems to be 20-30 accepted out of 80 interviewed and 500+ applications- quite competitive even after interview. From what I’ve gathered they ask some weird questions (like how to convince a homeless person to work), and they also make you reflect on a movie scene that they show the group of interviewees in addition to the regular questions. Sorry to those who didn’t get an interview, it was definitely an extremely competitive pool. Congrats to those who’ve received interviews, looking forward to the trip down to Florida!

breaker746, did you post your stats somewhere? if not, do you mind sharing?

I got an interview too :)

But it seems like none of the HPME interview recipients have received invites to scholarship week. I’m kind of curious about that. Is there a chance that I could still get one?

Still haven’t received anything yet. Sigh, I guess I’ll call tomorrow.

Did all the applicants who qualified and applied for the HPME program receive a singer invite?

I think the scholarship invitation was to keep us interested in miami since some of the hpme applicants were only applying to miami because of the program. In the email they said they will send formal details and the official invite in march but they were just “letting us know earlier.” you will likely receive it anyway but it will come later.

quoted from the rejection email:

Consideration for both aforementioned scholarships is based on attending our scholarship weekend on campus on March 2-3, 2012. I am informing you in advance of the formal notification in hopes that you will consider joining us for the program. You will receive an official invitation to participate in the coming months and will be able to register for the program at that time

@ferredoxin, not sure whether or not there is regional bias (I’m from Philly area). I’m sorry you didn’t get interview for miami, but from what I’ve seen you’ve got interviews for some other solid programs, so don’t fret.

@mydog you can catch my stats on the U Chicago results thread.

Got an email this morning, and I was called for an interview :D.
To all future applicants : SCORES DON"T MATTER. Just meet the requirements, and you’re good to go. At the time I applied, I had a 1400 SAT, 600 Science, and a 720 Math Subject test (However, I am valedictorian of my class). They’re really looking at extracurricular activities (Research, etc.) more than anything.

I applied last year and got in (didn’t attend, though). They said about 200 applied, about 140 had complete applications, and about 70 got interviews for 30 slots. Location does not affect your chances at all since UMiami is private. No medical program will use your scores to compare you to other students if you’ve made it to the interview stage. Form there, all they care about are ECs and most importantly - why do you want to be a doctor. PM me with any questions about here, nu hpme, ppsp, etc.

I got an interview also for HPME, but I didn’t get the invite for the scholarship weekend until today. So, maybe they will send the invite a little later. They were trying to schedule it so my scholarship interview would happen after my HPME interview, so I didn’t have to go to Miami twice.

Did anyone here also apply for the Jefferson/Penn Program?
