Miami...... Snobby?

MBTIguy, I’m not sure where to start. First off, yes, I go to Miami. Secondly, the job offers from Fortune 500 companies mean nothing to me or just about anyone. Getting an offer of a job from one of the top 500 largest companies is meaningless. The job itself and its characteristics are what matter. Starting salary, mobility, benefits, bonuses, etc. Next, would you care to provide some info on that 10% stat you gave, not that it is pertinent to our discussion. However, if you want to compare salaries, you will see that Miami is in the top ten in the Midwest. Ohio isn’t. I do agree with you however about rankings being nigh meaningless.

But as for why Miami is better than Ohio, see graduation rates and see admittance standards. I’m sure I can find more reasons, but I don’t care enough.

^Plus, Miami isn’t party central like Ohio. Students are, at times, somewhat responsible.

At Ohio, the definition of responsibility is making sure that you don’t chug an entire six-pack during your Econ lecture.

+1 for Miami.

Let it be known that OHKID’s analysis is not analogous to my analysis.

I’ve talked to Miami kids who went through the business program, never was very impressed. The study abroad program consists of taking classes in another country with a group of Miami students. As opposed to the OU programs which you work on real consulting projects with international companies in teams of students from all over the world. Just an example… and the people are well, just visit the two campuses and see for yourself.

Also compare nationally competitive awards between the two campuses.
2009 Fulbright Awards and Applications (you can check the history as well)
Miami University-Oxford 2 18
Ohio University 8 22

Just saying, high achieving students should not be put off by OU.

Thank you for more meaningless statistics. Please give me a serious reason why OU is superior to Miami. Not, “I wasn’t impressed with the students from a rival school” or “the study abroad program is just studying abroad” or “a tiny minority of our students that applied for a particular academic scholarship won more of that particular academic scholarship than the tiny minority of students from your school that applied for that same scholarship”.

On a side note I’m glad the people at OU are healthy.

Ams I apologize for not making my point clear enough. I never meant to be assuming in anyway that OU is superier to Miami. What I AM saying, as that high achieving students should not be put off by OU. I think students should visit both, and to decide which is a better fit for them.

The meaningless statistics are to show that it doesn’t matter what school you go to, its what you do when you are there that matters.

Perhaps you aren’t familiar with the Fulbright Award? “The Fulbright Program is one of the most prestigious awards programs worldwide, operating in 144 countries and with 51 commissions. More Fulbright alumni have won Nobel Prizes than those of any other academic program.”

Year after year OU students receive some of the highest number of nationally competitive awards in the country. Just something to think about if parents don’t think their Honors student should go to OU.

^OU does have free tuition for those who obtain a 32 ACT, a very attractive option for me since I just recently bumped mine to there :)

“meaningless statistics” haha good one
