1st wave of award decisions were sent out yesterday afternoon by snail mail and process will be ongoing into January… no update on portal, so keep your eyes out for the Miami U package!
fyi I also asked about the notification process, and was told this afternoon that the merit award process for each admitted student is done totally at random and mailing timing / notification has no bearing on stats nor award level.
I would definitely try to attend an admitted student day. When the dates are announced, they will have lots of options to accommodate schedules. My son was so impressed with the Make It Miami program that by the end, he was ready to pay the deposit. It was our first time on campus, so we had a tour, lunch and meeting with his department, several informational sessions, got to try out the café and the gym (both VERY important to my son!), and meet lots of potential students and see the campus in action. We are from Baltimore, so during the trip, I made sure to see the town area and off-campus housing neighborhoods, too. All in all, a very impressive program! My son has just completed his 1st semester and loves Miami!

@JKrazney2 that’s great information you’ve shared. Miami will be the lowest COA for our daughter so we hope she likes it too.
We definitely can tell that Miami admin is on the ball. The social media, all of their communication and mailings, etc are all very well done.
I have no doubt we’ll like the campus and the town from everything we’ve heard. Miami all comes down to the fit for her. The Miami roadshow and the accepted students days will be very helpful with that.
We are from NY. How’s the travel from Baltimore been? Have you been able to get reasonable priced flights home for the breaks? Did you drive there for the initial drop off? Did he come home for Thanksgiving?
My son was accepted a week ago today, received merit notification today for 6k a year, he was ED at Case and accepted last night, so we had to withdraw from Miami. Good luck to everyone, this is a great University!
@Proudmom2023 - if you don’t mind, what is your son’s stats. Also what state are you in. Sitting on pins and needles here in CO. Congratulations to your son getting into Case!!
@COboysmom he actually sent his low ACT 27 to Miami. UW GPA 3.74 he has about 5 college classes he has taken at his high school, one of the best in Ohio. Eagle Scout, semi finalist for the “Deans” award for First Robotics, National Honors society, summer job working for the school district. We are in Ohio. Sorry, I don’t usually list his stats like most people on the boards, I think this is the highlights though.
He was also accepted to OSU engineering program and had to withdraw from that as well. I hope it helps!
@COboysmom your son’s stats are about are the same as our daughter’s at 3.7/33. They are guaranteed to get $20k/yr (assuming by your name here that you are oos too). I’m not expecting any more though as they are on the low end of the stats for the tóp merit tier.
Good to see some people are receiving their awards already so we should all have confirmation soon hopefully.
@lexluthor5 - Yes, we are in Colorado
USPS’ informed delivery shows that we have 4 big mail pieces today, so really hoping one of them is from Miami. We are hoping for more than the $20,000 to keep Miami in the running. But we realize there’s a lot of high stats kids applying and you are right, he is on the low end of the tier. Our biggest goal is to keep undergrad cost as low as possible so we can help him later with med school costs. We are also looking ahead that we have another son two years behind him wanting to go to a top Engineering school.
Good luck to all!
@COboysmom we wouldn’t mind more than $20K too for sure. We already have one at a very expensive private school (though with a nice scholarship). Nothing wrong with thinking about the whole picture when deciding on what to spend on undergraduate education.
We did already go ahead and book our trip to Oxford as $20K keeps Miami in the running.
My USPS email this morning also indicates that there are items that aren’t scanned, so we are hopeful it’ll come today as well.
@lexluthor5 and @COboysmom the unscarred item from Miami is a really cool welcome letter, the merit letter should reach you in a couple of days if the timing is like ours. Good luck to both of your families and Merry Christmas! ?
@Proudmom2023 - We already received the cool acceptance letter. Is the scholarship letter just a normal size envelope and not the big ones? Merry Christmas to you too! Wish we are done with the decision making process.
@Proudmom2023 already got the welcome letter as well. I guess that means no scholarship letter for us today. We are traveling next week so we won’t get the letter until at least 12/31. I wonder if they’d tell us over the phone if we knew the letter was waiting for us already.
