Miami University EA Class of 2022

My D was accepted to both honors and scholars for math
SAT 1520
GPA 3.88/4.00

Does anyone know when the second wave of decisions is supposed to come out? My friend got in with similar stats as me, but I haven’t heard a word. Does no getting in the first round mean that the second wave might be rejections?? ANY INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL Thanksss

My son received his acceptance packet today, but there was no mention of merit aid. Has anyone received notice of merit aid in their acceptance packet?

@janamy do you live in Ohio or OOS? I was wondering when the packet would be arriving…

We are OOS.

@janamy My S got his admission packet today too and there wasn’t any mention of merit. Last year’s class said merit came the week after admission, so what S wasn’t expecting to hear about merit yet.

Thank you for the information about merit coming later last year. Miami won’t be affordable without merit aid, so we are crossing our fingers over here.

I wonder if anyone can give me any insight here. D got accepted EA but no mention of honors or scholars, which seems weird to me bc her stats are higher than my son’s were, with a similar if not better resume, and he got computing scholars. D is planning on pre-med. I think my son got his scholars acceptance letter later, like maybe with his merit award, and that’s how he remembers it too, as two letters with merit attached to them arriving at the same time. Has anyone else’s child had that experience…of not getting their honors/scholars letter with the initial admissions letter, but receiving it later?

Thanks.

@JMRome I have a current Miami freshman in both honors and scholars. She received her honors notification with her admissions letter. She received her scholars invite at the beginning of February. There were some in her scholars cohort who received their scholars invite with their admissions letter. It’s possible there are more pre-med applicants making admission to the pre-med scholars group pretty competitive.

Accepted, Econ (FSB)
1520 SAT
3.7 UW 4.3 W
Admitted into Scholars program as well

@JMRome I am really hoping that is the case- we got the acceptance letter today, but no mention of honors or scholars…hoping merit comes our way…

@JMRome While it is completely possible the scholars and honors notifications could come later, decisions regarding those programs are based on a multitude of factors, and while stats are important, they aren’t the make or break, meaning that every individual program is different regarding who it accepts, and I know the premedical scholars cohort is one of the most competitive. Miami also states that those who attend their Summer Scholars programs and Bridges Programs have priority consideration for these programs if that is any help…

I am disappointed as well. My son was admitted EA into FSB; however, no mention of Honors distinction. In retrospect, we are not sure the Summer Scholars program gave any type of benefit for him specifically or anyone else from prior threads. My son’s resume was pretty impressive with leadership and leading and organizing service projects to aid deeply oppressed areas in a major urban area. He is admitted to Kelley at IU and now we are thinking about this option more seriously. Ultimately, I think it is about SAT scores. His was a little on the low end; he is our first child in the process and we thought it was good enough being in 96th percentile, but I think it needed to be a little higher to the 98th percentile. He did not retake. We learned our lesson for the next child:) He has a 4.0 with 7 AP classes. We just want him to make the most connections possible and the honors cohort at Miami seemed to offer that.

FYI
The letter my D received in the mail was generic and did not include the Honors or UASP information. She found that information in the Applicant Status Page online.

I got into the premed cohort but I have no mention of honors.

My S attended Summer Scholars this past summer and he was invited into Honors. He has 32ACT SS, 3.76uw, 4.6w, and 10 APs. We are still waiting on merit notification. I can’t help but wonder if geography is a factor in how Miami awards merit money and possibly the honors and scholars invites???

My daughter’s acceptance packet arrived yesterday and I have to say it was the best designed of the acceptance envelopes she has received. Very slick! But unfortunately it did not contain any merit scholarship info and actually didn’t even mention her major, like the letter in her portal.

I agree @blackbird881 by far the nicest acceptance mail she’s received, it was a really lovely surprise!

@Violinviolamom @STF4717 @Pastpower @MommyCoqui Thanks for the responses. My D has a 34 ACT in one sitting, 93/100 average in all honors h.s., varsity sports, over 500 hours community service, rock band for 8 years, summer programs at Johns Hopkins CTY and Carnegie Mellon…blah blah blah. Standard high achiever resume. Her SAT was a little lower with a 1450 cumulative, but that shouldn’t keep her out of scholars. I’m sure there will be merit aid offered, and hopefully a UASP notification too. We really love Miami…so hopefully she gets a good merit award. Otherwise Pitt and South Carolina Honors College are strong contenders.

And yes…D loved the slick packaging of the acceptance letter. She’s a graphic designer among other things and appreciates when things are done well (and it makes her crazy when they are not, lol!)

@blackbird881 Merit letters should come out in the next week or so.
