Miami University Journalism Program

I just confirmed my enrollment at Miami and was wondering if anyone here is majoring in journalism or has heard about the program. I'm interested in majoring in journalism along with French. On average, how much homework can you expect to be doing every night at Miami? Would you recommend the journalism program? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don’t want you to think we wouldn’t want to help, but I, for one, truly knew nothing of the journalism program at Miami. I happened to be there Wed for last Wind Ensemble concert of the year and D2 mentioned the journalism program in passing and it made me think of your post. After asking, I still know very little. D2 has a second year friend in the program who is happy with it. I would suggest you call the department and ask if they can put you in touch with a current student.

I have two Ds currently at MU. I can tell you they and all their friends spend a great deal of time with coursework. First semester students are not allowed to take more than 16 or is it 18 credit hours. Don’t make the mistake thinking that should be easy enough with all that extra time compared to HS. College is a lot of work. Go in mentally prepared for that and you will be okay. I would say the girls have done classes, social activities (at least meals with friends), a physical activity (rec center, sport or dance) and out of class work everyday. D2 probably sneaks a nap in there too!

My DD loves Miami and hopes to attend in a couple years which is why I read this but Im sorry I wont be much help. I do know that Mizzou has an outstanding Journalism program.
