Miami University (OH) in state vs. Indiana University OOS

I want to major in finance and would like to know which school would be the better option for me. I am aware that IU has the higher ranked business school, but would it be worth the OOS price? Tuition and fees for Miami in state are 13,799 and tuition and fees for India out of state are 33,240. I would qualify for scholarship money at each school, but am not sure how much yet. However, there is no chance of me receiving financial aid. I visited Miami and really liked it, and although I haven’t visited Indiana yet, I think I will really like it as well. Any opinion would be appreciated!

You will get an excellent education at either school. I wouldn’t pay 2 1/2 times the price to go to Indiana, however, apply to both after visiting IU if you wish. You might find the price differential is not as extreme after scholarships. Both are beautiful campuses in different ways. IU has more than double the students and Bloomington is more interesting than Oxford. It also has many more graduate programs while Miami’s emphasis is undergraduate education. If the price differentiation narrows determine which school you feel the most comfortable at. Having Miami as a choice is great. Good luck.

How would you pay for the $20K/year difference? Are your parents OK with shelling that out? There are some programs that recruit from IU that don’t from Miami (IB). Otherwise Miami would be fine for you. All the better if you start off as a new full time employee with no debt.

Miami U is a very fine and attractive university. Really doesn’t make sense to pay more for the same program elsewhere, everything else being equal (if you like the place).

See what scholarships you get first.
No need to concern yourself yet as no decision has to be made soon.
