Miami University (OHIO) Chances?

Quick Bio: Average student freshman year but encountered family problems (forced to move out from parents home because of stress from them arguing, transferred schools, supported myself with after school job) during sophomore & junior year of high school. I realized my mistakes I made and had a strong upward trend senior year. Currently a fifth year senior, gpa has continued to rise. Maintained a 3.2 semester gpa since senior year but my cummulative gpa is barely 2.1. My admissions counselor from MU seemed understanding and said their school would most likely look past my gpa and focus on my semester grades upward trend, EC's and test scores. Currently attend a private tribal school. ACT 21 & SAT 1370. I'm also an enrolled tribal member. I'm considered OOS. I applied as an EA applicant but was recently deferred to regular admission (That happens to all EA applicants who aren't accepted btw) and I will find out officially on the 15th. I'm very nervous because Miami is very competitive especially for someone like me with less than average grades. Can I get into MU?

EC's:
Varsity Cheerleader-2 years
Varsity Basketball-1 year
Varsity Volleyball-1 year
Assistant Cheer Coach-1 year (this year)

Work experience (2 jobs)

Major: Philosophy

Ok so I think your school is going to be a pretty big reach based on your GPA and SAT. Hopefully, you were able to convey in your application how hard it was growing up and how much you had to adapt as well as decent essays and recommendation letters. I think if you were white it would be a definite no but because you are native american, I think you stand at least some chance. I wish you would have posted earlier so you could know to concentrate on your improvement in your application. Regardless, best of luck. I hope you get in and feel free to update this thread when you hear back.

Miami U: High match

Thanks! Just to clarify my SAT was 1370/2400 & 920/1600 from last year. I recently retook it but the results won’t be in until MU has already made a final decision.

Maybe you can attend a CC, put your act together there and then transfer to Miami U, but, in doing so, pay attention to the articulation agreements.
